HK- Heckler and Koch
Heckler & Koch is a German firearms manufacturer founded in 1949, known for producing some of the world’s most reliable duty pistols and military rifles. From the VP9A1 striker-fired series carried by law enforcement agencies worldwide to the SP5 semi-automatic pistol and the HK416 used by elite military units, H&K builds firearms engineered to function under conditions that would stop lesser guns. Every HK firearm is built to the same specification as its military counterpart.

HK VP9A1 Series: The Standard-Bearer for Striker-Fired Duty Pistols
The VP9A1 is H&K’s flagship striker-fired pistol and one of the most refined duty pistols on the market. The A1 generation removed finger grooves, added a factory-flared magwell, upgraded to a nickel-Teflon trigger bar, and standardized 17-round magazines across full-size models. The VP9A1 F (full-size, 4.53” barrel) and VP9A1 K (compact, 4.09” barrel) cover the standard duty and carry roles. The VP9A1 X Tactical adds a factory-threaded 4.70” CHF barrel, direct optics-cut slide, and suppressor-height tritium sights. The VP9CC micro-compact rounds out the family for deep concealment carry.
HK P30 Series: Modular DA/SA for Duty and Carry
The HK P30 and P30SK use a traditional double-action/single-action trigger with H&K’s LEM (Law Enforcement Modification) trigger option — a consistent, medium-weight pull that eliminates the DA/SA transition shot without going full striker-fired. The P30 is a full-size duty pistol in 9mm or .40 S&W; the P30SK is the subcompact carry version. Both feature interchangeable backstraps and side panels, ambidextrous controls, and a Picatinny rail. Agencies requiring a hammer-fired option with a consistent pull often choose the P30 over striker alternatives.
HK USP and HK45: The Original Polymer Duty Pistols
The HK USP (Universal Self-loading Pistol) was introduced in 1993 and predates most modern polymer-frame duty pistols by years. Available in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP, the USP uses a recoil-reduction system that H&K developed for competition shooting, which measurably reduces felt recoil and component wear. The HK45 followed with a larger grip and .45 ACP-optimized geometry. Both remain in production as professional-grade alternatives for buyers who prefer a hammer-fired platform with proven military and law enforcement pedigree.
HK SP5: The Civilian MP5
The SP5 is H&K’s civilian-legal semi-automatic pistol built on the same tooling and to the same specifications as the MP5 submachine gun. It uses H&K’s roller-delayed blowback operating system — the same mechanism that made the MP5 the world’s most copied submachine gun design. The SP5 fires 9mm from HK-pattern magazines, accepts MP5 accessories, and delivers the same short-stroke roller action that gives the MP5 its reputation for smooth, controllable fire. For collectors and HK enthusiasts, the SP5 is the closest civilian equivalent to the original.
HK MR556A4 and MR762A4: Piston Rifles Built to Military Spec
The MR556A4 in 5.56 NATO and MR762A4 in 7.62×51mm NATO are H&K’s civilian semi-automatic rifles, built on the same short-stroke gas piston system as the HK416 and HK417 used by special operations forces worldwide. Both feature cold hammer-forged threaded barrels, fully ambidextrous controls, adjustable gas regulators, M-LOK free-float handguards, and two-stage match triggers. The adjustable gas regulator allows the shooter to tune the system for suppressed or unsuppressed fire without tools. The MR762A4 is the stronger choice for longer-range precision and hunting; the MR556A4 is lighter with lower recoil for general use.
HK416: Semi-Auto Rifle Built to Military Specification
The HK416 civilian semi-automatic rifle is built on the same short-stroke gas piston operating system as the military HK416 used by special operations forces worldwide. Unlike AR-15 direct impingement systems, the HK416’s piston keeps combustion gases out of the receiver, resulting in a cooler, cleaner action that requires less maintenance under high round counts. The civilian model is available in 5.56 NATO and .22 LR trainer configurations and accepts standard STANAG magazines.
