Suppressor Covers
Suppressor covers are heat-resistant wraps that protect your suppressor — and everything near it — from the extreme temperatures that sustained fire generates. A suppressor running hot enough to burn skin, ignite vegetation, or damage a scabbard after a range session or hunting outing is a genuine hazard; a quality cover addresses all three concerns while adding a layer of handling comfort during extended fire. With the $200 NFA tax stamp eliminated in 2026 and suppressor ownership surging, suppressor covers have become one of the most practical and frequently purchased suppressor accessories available.

Why Suppressors Get So Hot
A suppressor works by trapping and cooling expanding propellant gas inside its baffle stack — which means absorbing and dissipating the thermal energy of every shot fired through it. During sustained fire, this thermal load accumulates rapidly. A rifle suppressor after a 30-round magazine at a typical pace can reach temperatures that cause immediate burns on contact. After several magazines in quick succession, the suppressor surface can reach temperatures that ignite dry grass or damage synthetic materials like scabbards, cases, and vehicle upholstery. A suppressor cover doesn’t eliminate this heat generation — it contains it, providing an insulating layer between the hot metal and everything it contacts.
GPS Suppressor Covers: The Primary Brand
GPS Outdoors produces the most widely stocked suppressor cover lineup in the American market, available in multiple lengths (5”, 6”, 7.5”), colors (Black, Tan, OD Green), and construction materials (1000D Nylon, tactical fabric). GPS covers use a hook-and-loop attachment system that secures the cover to the suppressor without adhesive or permanent mounting, allowing easy removal for cleaning or cooling. The covers are available with tether lines that prevent loss if the cover loosens during fire. For most suppressor owners, a GPS cover in the correct length for their specific suppressor is the practical and cost-effective solution.
Sizing Your Cover: Getting the Right Fit
Suppressor covers are sized by length — the cover should match or slightly exceed your suppressor’s length for full protection. A 6” pistol suppressor like the Sonicore Valor 9 pairs with a 6” cover; a 14.6 oz rifle suppressor like the Sonicore Rekkr pairs with a 7.5” or longer cover. GPS offers covers in 5”, 6”, and 7.5” as standard sizes, with specialized 22 LR covers for rimfire suppressors that run cooler but still benefit from protection during extended sessions. When in doubt, size up — a slightly longer cover causes no problems while an undersized cover leaves the hottest part of the suppressor (the front baffle area) exposed.
Hunting Applications: Field Cover Use
For hunters, the suppressor cover’s function extends beyond burn protection. A covered suppressor is quieter to carry through brush — bare metal ticking against vegetation is audible to game at close range. The cover’s surface also reduces the suppressor’s reflectivity in field conditions where a flash of sunlight off bare metal can alert deer or other game. For hunters who carry suppressed rifles in scabbards or cases, the cover protects the scabbard interior from heat damage after the shot. The combination of thermal protection, noise reduction, and glare elimination makes a suppressor cover a practical field accessory rather than just a safety item.
Cover Care and Maintenance
Suppressor covers accumulate carbon residue, propellant fouling, and field debris over time. GPS nylon covers are hand-washable in mild detergent — allow full air drying before use to prevent moisture from trapping against the suppressor body. Covers should be inspected periodically for heat damage to the inner lining; while 1000D nylon is heat-resistant, sustained extreme heat from heavy suppressor use will eventually degrade the inner surface. Replace covers that show melting, structural compromise, or attachment failure. GPS covers are priced accessibly enough that replacement is straightforward when needed.
