Forced Reset Triggers
Forced Reset Triggers (FRTs) represent one of the most significant innovations in semi-automatic trigger technology in recent years. We stock the leading FRT options for AR-15 and pistol platforms — including the Partisan Triggers Disruptor, Atrius Development forced reset selectors, and the Taurus TX22 Freedom Fingers — for shooters looking for the fastest-cycling semi-automatic trigger available.

What Is a Forced Reset Trigger?
A Forced Reset Trigger is a semi-automatic trigger design that uses the movement of the bolt carrier group to mechanically reset the trigger to the forward position after each shot, rather than relying on the shooter's finger to release the trigger under spring tension. The result is an extremely fast, consistent reset that allows for rapid semi-automatic fire. Critically, FRTs still require a separate, deliberate trigger pull for each round fired — they do not fire automatically.
FRT Legal Status
FRT triggers have been the subject of ongoing regulatory and legal scrutiny. The ATF previously issued guidance classifying certain FRT designs as machine guns, but that classification has been challenged in federal courts. The Supreme Court's June 2024 decision in Garland v. Cargill — which held that bump stocks do not meet the statutory definition of a machine gun because a machine gun must fire multiple rounds by a single "function of the trigger" — has materially strengthened the legal standing of FRT devices operating on the same statutory analysis.
It is the buyer's sole responsibility to verify the legal status of FRT triggers under federal law and the laws of their specific state before purchasing. Some states have independent machine gun statutes that may apply regardless of federal classification. We recommend consulting with a qualified firearms attorney if you have questions about legality in your jurisdiction.
FRT Product Guide
Partisan Triggers Disruptor FRT (AR Platform) — The Disruptor is purpose-built for mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers and uses a precision-machined forced reset mechanism to achieve the fastest possible semi-automatic reset on the AR platform. Available in black and OD green. Drop-in installation compatible with standard AR-15 lower receivers.
Atrius Development Forced Reset Selectors (AR-15) — Atrius takes a different engineering approach, integrating the forced reset mechanism into the selector switch assembly. Available in standard, ambidextrous, and ambidextrous with G-Lever configurations for mil-spec AR-15 platforms. The selector-based design keeps the lower profile clean and integrates seamlessly with existing trigger components.
Taurus TX22 Freedom Fingers FRT (Stainless Steel) — A forced reset trigger designed specifically for the Taurus TX22 .22 LR pistol. The stainless steel construction provides durability, and the FRT design is well-matched to the TX22's operating system. An excellent option for high-volume .22 LR training and competition shooters running the TX22 platform.
FRT vs. Standard Semi-Auto Triggers
Standard semi-automatic triggers reset when the shooter releases the trigger forward past the reset point. An FRT mechanically assists this reset via the bolt carrier, resulting in a shorter, more consistent reset that doesn't depend on the shooter's tactile feel for the reset point. For competitive shooters, this means faster split times and more consistent stage performance. The tradeoff is that FRTs require a deliberate release and re-pull for each shot — "riding the reset" technique common with standard triggers does not apply.
What to Know Before You Buy
- Verify federal and state legal compliance before purchasing. See the legal status section above.
- FRTs are designed for specific platforms — verify compatibility with your specific firearm before ordering.
- Installation should follow manufacturer instructions. Some FRT designs are drop-in; others may require minor fitting.
- FRT triggers ship as parts directly to your address — no FFL transfer is required.
