What's New: V-Series and Generation 6

Glock's 2025 lineup brings two major product lines worth knowing about. The Glock V-Series is the new standard production lineup — featuring the Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB), nDLC finish, no finger grooves, ambidextrous slide stop, and front serrations across the G17V, G19V, G19XV, G20V, G21V, G26V, G44V, and G45V. Generation 6 models build further on the V-Series platform with an updated trigger, refined grip texture, and a factory optics-ready slide with a standardized footprint that eliminates the need for adapter plates. If you're buying a new Glock today, start with V-Series or Gen 6.

Glock Generation Guide

Gen 3 — The classic. Finger grooves, accessory rail, dual recoil spring. Still in production, widely available, enormous aftermarket. The most affordable way into the Glock platform.

Gen 4 — Reversible magazine release, improved grip texture, dual recoil spring assembly. The last generation before the Gen 5 frame redesign. Excellent value and still preferred by many shooters.

Gen 5 — Removed finger grooves, ambidextrous slide stop, flared magwell, Marksman Barrel, nDLC finish. The most significant Glock update in decades. Still in production and an excellent choice.

V-Series (2025) — Gen 5 foundation with GMB barrel, nDLC finish, no finger grooves, ambi controls, front serrations, and three magazines included. The new standard production lineup.

Generation 6 — The latest. Adds an updated trigger system, refined grip texture, and a factory-direct optics cut with a standardized footprint — no adapter plates required for major red dot brands.

Glock Model Guide: Which Size Is Right for You?

Full-size (G17, G20, G21, G34, G47) — Longest barrel, highest capacity, best accuracy at distance. Ideal for home defense, open carry, competition, and duty use. The G17 is the world's most-copied pistol design and remains our top full-size recommendation.

Compact (G19, G23, G32, G45) — The sweet spot. Concealable for most people, high capacity, easy to shoot well. The G19 is the best-selling handgun in America and our top overall Glock recommendation for new buyers and experienced shooters alike.

Subcompact (G26, G27, G33, G39, G43, G43X) — Maximum concealability. Shorter grip, lower capacity, still accepts full-size Glock magazines with a grip extension. Best for pocket carry or deep concealment. The G43X is our top subcompact recommendation — slim, 10+1 capacity, and easier to shoot than the G26.

Long slide (G17L, G24, G34, G35, G40, G41) — Extended barrel and sight radius for competition and hunting. The G34 dominates USPSA Production and Carry Optics. The G40 MOS is the go-to for handgun hunters and suppressor use in 10mm.

Single stack / slimline (G42, G43, G43X, G48) — Glock's thinnest pistols. The G42 in .380 ACP and G43 in 9mm are among the most popular pocket carry guns ever made. The G43X and G48 add capacity with a longer grip while keeping the slim profile.

Glock MOS — Optics-Ready from the Factory

Glock MOS (Modular Optic System) models come from the factory with a milled slide and adapter plates ready to accept the most popular red dot footprints — no gunsmithing required. Available across the G17, G19, G34, G40, G45, and more. Gen 6 MOS models eliminate adapter plates entirely with a standardized optics cut. If you're planning to run a red dot, MOS is the starting point.

Glock Caliber Guide

9mm — The right choice for most buyers. Lower recoil, higher capacity, cheaper to practice with, and modern defensive loads match or exceed larger calibers in real-world performance. The G17, G19, G26, G43, G43X, and G48 are all 9mm.

.40 S&W — The former law enforcement standard. More recoil and lower capacity than 9mm, but still widely used. The G22, G23, G27, G35 are the primary .40 models.

.45 ACP — The G21 and G21V are Glock's .45 ACP full-size options. More recoil, lower capacity, but the classic American self-defense cartridge with a dedicated following.

10mm — The G20 and G20V are the flagship 10mm models. Powerful enough for hunting and bear country carry. Significant recoil but unmatched power in a semi-auto pistol.

.380 ACP — The G42 is Glock's only .380, and one of the most popular pocket carry guns made. Lightest recoil of any Glock.

.22 LR — The G44 and G44V share the G19 frame but fire .22 LR — the best training companion for any Glock shooter. Cheap to shoot, identical manual of arms.
