Glock 35
The Glock 35 is the competition-oriented long-slide .40 S&W pistol in Glock’s lineup—a 15+1 capacity pistol with a 5.32″ barrel, factory adjustable rear sight, and the same extended frame as the Glock 34. Built specifically for USPSA Limited and IDPA Enhanced Service Pistol divisions where .40 S&W provides a scoring advantage through its higher power factor, the G35 is one of the most capable factory competition pistols Glock produces.

Why the Glock 35 Exists: Power Factor and Competition Rules
USPSA Limited division uses a scoring system where heavier, faster rounds achieve a higher power factor (bullet weight in grains × velocity in fps ÷ 1,000) and qualify for the Major power factor scoring advantage. .40 S&W loaded to meet Major power factor (165 power factor) gives competitors more scoring flexibility on partial target hits compared to Minor-scoring 9mm. The G35 was built specifically to compete in this division—its 5.32″ barrel maximizes .40 S&W velocity for making Major power factor with standard commercial loads, and its long sight radius improves practical accuracy at speed. Competitors who care about power factor choose the G35; those who don’t (or who shoot Production or Carry Optics) are better served by the 9mm G34.
G35 vs. G34: The Two Competition Glocks Compared
The G34 (9mm) and G35 (.40 S&W) are the two long-slide competition Glocks and share the same frame, barrel length, and overall dimensions. The G34 holds 17+1 rounds; the G35 holds 15+1. The G34 shoots more comfortably with less recoil and lower ammunition cost. The G35 achieves Major power factor in USPSA Limited with appropriate loads—the G34 in 9mm scores Minor. For USPSA Production division, use the G34; for USPSA Limited Major, use the G35. If you only compete occasionally and don’t want to think about power factor, the G34 in 9mm is the more practical and enjoyable gun to shoot.
G35 Competition Setup: What Competitors Add
Most G35 competition shooters run the gun with targeted modifications. A trigger job—typically a polished connector, reduced power spring, and aftermarket trigger shoe from Apex, ZEV, or Lone Wolf—improves the pull weight and reset noticeably. An extended magazine release and extended slide stop allow faster reloads and slide manipulation. A red dot sight mounted via an aftermarket slide cut or factory MOS model adds meaningful accuracy at speed. A magwell funnel from Arredondo or DAA accelerates reloads under competition pressure. Aftermarket basepad-equipped magazines from MBX or Henning extend capacity to 17+ rounds while keeping the follower seated reliably under comp loads.
Using the G35 for Duty and Carry
The G35’s 5.32″ barrel and long frame make it impractical for concealed carry but suitable for open carry and duty use where size isn’t a constraint. Some officers and security professionals carry long-slide Glocks in duty holsters specifically for the longer sight radius and velocity advantage. For a shooter who competes with the G35 and wants to use the same gun for duty use, the long slide’s increased holster length is a manageable tradeoff. Safariland and Blackhawk produce duty holsters specifically for the G34/35 platform. The adjustable rear sight is the primary ergonomic difference from a standard Glock duty gun—the adjustable sight is more fragile under hard use than a fixed sight, which is worth noting for duty carry.
G35 Gen 4 vs. Gen 5 MOS: What Changed
The Gen 5 G35 adds the Marksman Barrel with improved rifling geometry, the ambidextrous slide stop, the flared magwell, and removal of finger grooves from the grip for a more universal hand fit. The MOS (Modular Optic System) version adds a factory-milled slide with four optic adapter plates that accept most popular competition and duty red dots. For a competition shooter who plans to mount a red dot, the MOS variant eliminates the need for aftermarket slide milling and maintains the factory warranty. The Gen 5 MOS G35 is the most capable factory competition Glock available in .40 S&W.
