CZ-P01
The CZ P-01 is the compact, decocker-equipped variant of the CZ 75 platform—developed for the Czech Police and subsequently NATO-certified for military and law enforcement use. It combines the CZ 75’s inside-the-slide rails and DA/SA trigger with a shorter 3.75” barrel, alloy frame, and an ambidextrous decocker in place of a manual safety. The result is a carry-sized pistol that retains every mechanical virtue of the full-size CZ 75 while fitting a holster-ready, duty-proven package. The P-01 ships with two 14-round magazines.

CZ P-01 vs. CZ 75 Compact: What’s the Difference?
The CZ 75 Compact and CZ P-01 are closely related but not the same pistol. The P-01 was purpose-built to a NATO specification that required drop-safety, a decocker rather than a manual safety, and rail for a light. The CZ 75 Compact predates these requirements and uses a manual safety and a slightly different frame profile. The P-01 also features an M3 rail and improved ergonomics. For buyers choosing between them: if you want a decocker and a rail for carry or duty use, the P-01 is the correct choice. If you prefer a manual safety, the CZ 75 Compact is the alternative.
The Decocker vs. Manual Safety Decision
The P-01’s decocker safely lowers the hammer from cocked to decocked without firing the pistol, returning it to double-action-first-shot mode for carry. This is the preferred configuration for law enforcement and many self-defense carriers because it eliminates the need to manually manipulate a safety under stress—the pistol is always in a predictable state. The longer DA pull on the first shot serves as the safety mechanism. Buyers who prefer to carry cocked-and-locked should look at the CZ 75 B or CZ 75 Compact with manual safety instead.
NATO Certification and Real-World Durability
The P-01 passed NATO’s AC/225(ST)D/2093 testing protocol, which includes drop-safety tests, endurance firing, and extreme temperature performance. Czech Police and military units have run P-01s in service conditions for over two decades. The alloy frame is rated for +P ammunition. This is not marketing language—NATO certification requires documented performance across specific torture-test conditions that most commercial pistols are never subjected to. For buyers who prioritize proven durability over the newest platform, the P-01’s pedigree is difficult to match at its price point.
Ergonomics and Shootability
The P-01 inherits the CZ 75’s most praised characteristic: a grip angle and hand-fill that points naturally for most shooters without practice. The low bore axis—a result of the inside-the-slide rail system—reduces felt muzzle flip compared to most compact 9mm pistols. The single-action pull after the first shot is among the best of any production pistol. Shooters who move to the P-01 from modern striker-fired pistols almost universally comment that the P-01 feels more natural in the hand despite being a decades-old design.
Holsters and Carry Considerations
The CZ P-01 has strong holster support from major makers including Safariland, Alien Gear, and numerous Kydex custom shops. Its dimensions are similar to but not identical to the CZ 75 Compact—always confirm P-01 compatibility rather than ordering a generic CZ 75 Compact holster. At approximately 28 oz unloaded, the P-01 is on the heavier end for a compact carry pistol, which most shooters find reduces recoil perception and improves accuracy at the cost of slight additional carry weight.
