The most important thing to verify is whether the optic is mounted on the slide or included in the box unmounted. Some manufacturers ship with the optic installed and zeroed — those are the true ready-to-shoot packages. Others include the optic in the box but require the buyer to mount it. Both are good values, but clarify before you buy so you know what work remains before your first range session.

Best for carry: Look for compact or subcompact platforms with a shield-footprint optic (Holosun 507K, Shield RMSc) — the lower-profile cuts work better under a holster than full-size MOS footprints.
