I have shot 500 rounds through it different types of ammo an no issues,at 40 yards 4 shots in the bullseye, every time I shot.
Beautiful gun great shooter now that my front site is pointed the correct direction. It is not a picky eater and digest cheap Federal Aluminum and Tulammo Steel cased with no problem. The only reason it does not get 10 stars is because of the issues covered in my first review, mighty pretty with a great trigger.
As a life long shooter (thanks Dad, for the passion) I have owned many handguns and fired many more at work. I'm just a regular joe but feel my limited experience atleast qualifys me to comment. This Remington is a great shooter! Sure there a lots of fancy 1911's out there that look great in your gun safe and I'm sure would perform wonderfully if their owners wernt afraid to scratch them. I say "screw that"! I have guns to shoot them. I got a basic R1 S on sale and then had a blast finding and installing the parts that I like plus picked up a half dozen more 8 round magazines and 3 holsters. All for 2/3s less than some fancy gun. I've now put probably 500 rounds threw it without a failure. If you want a great shooter 1911, GET THE R1! If you love to tinker get the standard model, if not get the enhanced.
I got the stainless version with large sights and no ugly beavertail grip safety. I've been shooting 1911's since the early 1970's starting at Gitmo, then fleet team competition and as a civilian and never been "bitten" once. My only complaint with the Remington is the trigger pull, which has a lot of creep and overtravel. My gunsmith should be able to fix that easily enough.
the best gun I have ever shot, it is bad a**
I bought mine at a LGS; the only issue I had with my 1911R1S was that the front sight was misaligned, which affected my shooting at any distance. The resident gunsmith at the range fixed that for me, though I did have to provide him the .050" hex key wrench. That quick repair job made a world of difference; it's a great shooter. I may have had one or two failure to battery issues, but I had just gone through two boxes of ammo at that point. My wife likes it too.
I bought this gun two weeks ago. I have previously owned two other handguns. 1. Ruger P95 9mm, 2. Zastava M88A 9mm. I had to send the Ruger back to the factory twice as it was jaming and dropping the spent shells down my shirt, and they can burn the skin. Since then it performs flawlessly no matter what brand shells used. I presently have my M88A at a gunsmith for jaming and failure to load properly, many different brands of shells. Now, the first time I shot my new Remington, it performed flawlessly from the very first shot. After 200 rounds, in two different sessions, using mostly FMJ's and about 20 or so hydra Shok personal defense rnds, all and I mean all, are centered on target in the size of a softball at 21 ft. I have never had that king of marksmanship from either of the other guns. This Remington 1911 R1S is an amazing gun and I wish I had bought it first as I probably would not have bought another gun. What an amazing gun.
When I looked here Impact did not have the R1S. I bought one else where. I also found many place with a much higher price. This is a nice well made 1911. I personally like the finish better than most stainless. Just fits my eye. I really like the sights. They are a bit larger than most white dot sights which for my old eyes help in seeing the target and getting back on target. The only down side for me is lack of checkering on the front of the grip. Not a big deal though. I like the rest of it. I would buy again.
