From the Ruger Press Room
April 18, 2011

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce the Ruger® SR1911, an "All American" classic rendition of John Browning's most famous handgun design. The public debut of the Ruger SR1911 pistol will take place during the NRA Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania April 29 - May 1.

The single-action .45 Auto Ruger SR1911 features a bead-blasted stainless steel frame and slide, precision CNC machined for a precise slide-to-frame fit. The stainless steel barrel and bushing are produced simultaneously, from the same ordnance-grade barstock, for a precise fit and improved accuracy. The slide features rear cocking serrations and a dovetailed three-dot sight system with a Novak® rear sight and standard front sight.

"We are very proud to offer a 1911 pistol, an icon of American gun design and manufacturing," said Ruger CEO Michael Fifer. "In this 100-anniversary year of the introduction of the Government Model 1911 it is only fitting that such a firearm be completely manufactured in America with all American-made components."

The Ruger SR1911 pistol features a titanium firing pin and heavy firing pin spring, which negates the need for a firing pin block, offering an updated safety feature to the original "Series 70" design without compromising trigger pull weight. An extended thumb safety offers improved manipulation and an oversized beavertail grip safety provides positive function and reliability. A visual inspection port offers visual confirmation of a round in the chamber.

Positive extraction is facilitated by an improved internal extractor. The plunger tube for both the slide stop and thumb safety is integral to the frame and will never shoot loose. The swedged link pin also will not shoot loose. The SR1911 uses a skeletonized hammer and an aluminum, skeletonized trigger with an adjustable over-travel stop. The Ruger SR1911 features a standard recoil guide system and flat mainspring housing.

The Ruger SR1911 grips feature a Ruger logo in checkered hardwood panels. Each pistol is shipped with one 7-round and one 8-round stainless steel magazine, bushing wrench and a soft case. The SR1911 will fit currently available holsters.

Ruger SR1911 Features
CLASSIC STYLE: Original 1911 Series 70 design provides for easy takedown and re-assembly. Slim traditional design with hardwood grips and checkered backstrap.
MODERN MANUFACTURING: Precision CNC-controlled machining process results in a superior slide-to-frame fit and smooth slide travel. The stainless steel barrel and bushing are produced from the same bar stock, on the same machine, for improved accuracy.
PERFORMANCE: Positive barrel lock-up allows for a superior accuracy out-of-the-box. Oversized ejection port and extended magazine release enhance competition performance.
TRIGGER AND HAMMER: Lightweight, aluminum, skeletonized trigger features an adjustable over-travel stop and provides a very crisp, no creep, light trigger pull with a quick, positive reset. Skeletonized hammer is lightweight and provides faster cycling.
SIGHTING SYSTEM: Dovetailed, 3-dot sight system features a Novak® LoMount Carry rear and standard front sight that combines optimal target acquisition in an ideal carry configuration.
FRAME AND SLIDE: Stainless steel frame and slide feature blasted, low-glare finish and slide serrations for positive grip.
SAFETY: Oversized beavertail grip safety provides positive function and reliability. Extended thumb safety and slide stop lever provide for improved, positive manipulation. Visual inspection port allows for visual confirmation that chamber is loaded.

  • Great pistol, great service

Posted by Jeff on Apr 15th 2016

Pistol came when promised. Exactly as advertised. Experience with Impact was first rate and I've passed on their information to all my friends with highest recommendations.
300 rounds since February purchase with no problems. Tight pattern right out of the box. It has a tight feel and great balance. The trigger pull is very smooth. Finally, it is a great looking handgun.
    Thanks guys.

  • My new favorite pistol, in my collection.

Posted by Lee on Mar 19th 2016

My Glock 19 was always my favorite pistol (in my collection). It was always "FAIR" at shooting targets. But, this SR1911 is much more accurate than my Glock 19. It is also very reliable. It is far superior to my Springfield 1911 (My Springfield 1911 never fed or ejected correctly). Thank you Impact Guns and especially THANK YOU RUGER FOR PUTTING ANOTHER GREAT GUN INTO MY COLLECTION! You can't go wrong with a Ruger and you can't go wrong with purchasing from Impact Guns. (I have been a customer of Impact Guns and Ruger for 10 yrs)

  • Good quality 1911

Posted by Will on Sep 7th 2015

I bought two and they both function 100 % & I love the weather-proof stainless finish. I didn't give them 5 stars because their triggers have a lot of up and down movement and a bit of slack to be taken up before firing. They're also no where near as crisp of a let off as my Kimber. Both slides also have a bit of play between them and the frame, both up and down and side to side. Not much, but they're not a rock solid fit. That could actually be a good thing for reliability. Their accuracy is about the same as my Glock, good but not great. I also found the bottom edge of the main spring housing checkering to be a bit abrasive on my hand. Other then those small details, they have been great guns. I've since used my dremmel to polish the feed ramps, changed the safeties out for the stainless standard colt safety since I hate the extended versions, and changed the main spring housings out for the a stainless chain link type that's much easier on my palms but still grippy. These additions cost me about $50 total and some time to do the fitting. All in all, I'm very happy with the pistols, and for the price I don't feel bad about subjecting them to rough duty use. I know this review was long, but I hope its raw honesty helped.

  • out shoots its price range

Posted by wagonmaster on Sep 13th 2014

I've put around 1000 rounds through mine and can't find a weakness. it always works, clean or "dirty",whatever ammo i find nothing confuses it. the quality is top notch. many friends have tried it and since traded out of their sigs and taurus 1911. can't say enough about how much i like it. going broke from feeding it, that is a drawback i guess. but out of the box accurate, and functions flawless, and gorgeous

  • Another one of my favorites

As a Christmas gift from my wife in 2013, she couldn't have done better. I have put over 500 rounds through my CMD with no issues what so ever. Although I am not necessarily brand loyal, I have since bought several Ruger pistols. The SR1911 is a lot of bang for the buck, not to mention made in the good old US of A.

  • Worth twice the price!

Posted by AC on May 31st 2014

Dead-on accuracy right out of the box, well-made, great price. No plans to "trade up" to a S&W, Colt, or Kimber anytime soon; I'd much rather spend the money on ammo for this bad-boy.

  • Great 1911

Posted by Ronnie on Apr 6th 2014

I've had this pistol about six months and have run about 5 or 6 hundred rounds thru it ! It performs wonderfully, very accurate and fun to shoot. I have about six or seven 1911's and this is probably the best ! Got a Sig that might be as nice, but guys I believe you won't get one any better, sure out shoots me. They are extremely tight tolerances on this Pistol !! Great buy, they've hit it out the park man !!!!!

  • 1st 1911

Posted by JAB on Mar 23rd 2014

As the heading suggested...this is my 1st 1911. I now know why it's been around 100+ years. Combine a nearly perfect sidearm w/ Ruger's quality and workmanship & then top it off with world class Novak sights...Yes, I'm very satisfied. It comes out of the box with a good trigger & with a little polish it becomes very good. Only draw back... 45s being what they has forced me into reloading more than usual. But considering how much fun the SR1911 is to shoot it's a small price to pay. And speaking of get every dollars worth. My only suggestion, jump on them now before the price catches up to the value.

This is the 1st 1911 I have owned. I have shot others and the Ruger is as good as any. Very pleased with the service from Impact Guns, 5 star rating for them as well.

I saved 2yrs to order the SR1911...received her FAST, less than a week before my birthday. Happy! Happy! Birthday to me. 1st off, my compliments to all at Impact Guns! Outstanding price, sales, service & shipping! Thank You.
She's beautiful, sexy and packs a punch. I had to hold & caress her for 4 days before we could make it to the property. I WAS IMPRESSED! She backed up her good looks with 2.5" groups @ 30 yds using Federals .45 Auto 230 grn rn. Mighta had 2" or less had I not been so excited.
Thank you Ruger and Impact Guns!

  • Out of the box - Spectacular

Posted by Alastor on Jan 31st 2014

Just received the Ruger SR1911 5" model. As usual, IMPACT has fantastic service and the best price for this model. Fit and Finish are spectacular on the SR1911 and nothing wobbles except the grip safety (as it should). I'm anxious to shoot the Ruger and will provide a second update after the range visit.

  • Love it.

I purchased this ...sr1911, I waited for 2 moths to shoot with my son-in-law in Reno, this 45 is awesome, put 100 rds. threw it no problem..and I am not an expert, but it was very accurate. I had shot 1911 militaries before, what a difference.Only thing I noticed the grips were a little loose.Got the wrench to tighten,no problem, but do not over tight, you will strip it.

  • Very nice gun

Posted by DTXgunner on Aug 17th 2013

I've had my SR1911 commander for 6 mos now and I love it. I own 5 other handguns but this is my first 1911. I did my research and read lots of reviews before I picked this brand. I have put at least 1,500 rounds thru this gun and it is perfect. The fit and finish is great and it shoots extremely smooth. I like that it's all stainless and made in America too. I have had 2 failures to feed, only while using the Ruger brand extended 10 round mag. Outside of that I have had zero problems with this gun. The trigger is great and now I hate all my other handguns because of it. Accuracy is top notch and it definitely will impress. I let a buddy shoot this gun who owns a Kimber, Colt and a couple of custom 1911s and he went out and bought a Ruger afterwards.

  • Perfect carry!

Posted by Blake D. on Jun 28th 2013

This Ruger has been great. It's my first firearm purchase and I couldn't be happier. I carry it concealed every day, wherever I go. It shoots amazing with great accuracy and low recoil. While carrying it, I don't even have to worry about my sweat ruining the wood grip since it's been treated to resist damage.

The Ruger SR1911 has been worth every penny. I mean to keep it forever. You won't regret buying yourself one.

  • Beautiful firearm update

Posted by Klondike on May 28th 2013

I'm following up from an earlier review. I've now fired the gun extensively and can say this is one of the easiest guns I've shot. Very accurate out of the box. No failure to feeds with 'Small Pistol Primers - Military Ballistics Industries' ammo. O was surprised at how accurate it shot. There was what appeared to be some very light surface rust after sitting at my FFL's for 45 days but it cleaned up with some WD-40 and elbow grease. I'm using Eezox to prevent future problems. Can't say enough about this gun. I researched extensively before buying and I couldn't be happier. Buy this gun, no regrets guaranteed.

This is more of a shipping status for those of you on back order. I placed the order on January 12th and shipped on April 2nd. I was told last week it may be 2 more months but it shipped early :) I talked with Terry (Impact gunsmith) and wanted a trigger job added but the gun shipped before i could add it. Went to my FFL today to fill out the paperwork and I was immediately impressed with the fit, finish and feel of the gun. The trigger was still very crisp. The sights are not as pronounced as the pictures suggest, which I liked. The weight was perfect and the grip felt good, a full grip. You could skinny it with different grips but I don't mind it and the Ruger symbol has a classy look too. Can't wait to shoot it with some overpriced ammo but it's still nice to just look at. If you're hesitating, don't. You won't be disappointed. Well worth the wait. I'll update the review after a few trips to the range. I purchased this over a Remigton R1, Kimber Custom, and Taurus 1911.

I back-ordered it 7 weeks ago and picked it up at my FFL few days ago. I sold my RIA to fund this pistol. I should had bought one when they first came out. They were cheaper. ...Over all I'm very happy with this pistol and can't wait to try it out next weekend.

The wait time is coming down for the SR1911. I back ordered the gun in September 2012 and received it at the end of January 2013. Four months is much better than I expected. Thanks Impact Guns!
The firearm is beautiful and is worth much more than the price paid. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Waited about 6-7 months for mine. Finally got it shoots great, no hiccups, very accurate. After about 200 rounds I can say "you wouldn't go wrong if you back ordered this firearm." It's well worth the wait and money.

I waied almost 8 months to get my SR1911. It was well worth the wait. This gun is very well made. It is accurate and has functioned flawlessly. It compares well with 1911's costing significantly more. An excellant gun for the modest price.

You know its an Impressive weapon when a gunshop full of serious 1911 critics all had to put there hands on it before Im even through doing my transfer paperwork!!!It is everything I waited 7 months for..Ive already stripped it and looked at all fine machined parts and MADE IN U.S.A craftsmanship..Being a Ruger firearms collector it meets and exceeds all my expectations. Thanks again to all the staff here at Impact Guns!! They kept me well Imformed as to where I was on the Backorder list, and promptly contacted me when my Gun was ready to ship.
They are fine folks, and I will be Using them again soon! Thanks Guys...And Gals!!

Why spend thousands of dollars on a Wilson Combat or Kimber? This gun has it all, comfort, style, accuracy, reliability. Put 75rounds through mine today and it was just as good if not better than any 1911 I have owned. I have had Kimbers, Para Ord, and Colt, all of which were $800-1200 guns and none functioned or shot any better than the SR does for $650.

  • What a great gun

Posted by Ralph on Nov 4th 2012

I own several hand guns including a military 1911. I was not sure what to expect from the ruger 1911, but after the first 3 rounds I was amazed. The group was so tight it was hard to see where the 3 round went. Great balance and a comfortable recoil. I enjoy the gun every time I shoot it. Great price and well worth it.
    No Jams and no problems.

  • SR1911

Posted by Sean on Nov 3rd 2012

Got this gun after a long wait (8 months) and I have to say it was completely worth it. The finish and quality of this pistol is comparable to guns twice as expensive. It also takes down very nicely for cleaning. I ran 250 Rounds through this using Magtech ammo and it was flawless. I had 2 inch groups at 15 yards right out of the box. This trigger is so smooth and a dream to shoot. I have shot several 1911's including Kimber, Springfield and Colt and this is probably one of the best shooting 1911's, not to mention it's under 700 bucks list. I totally recommend this gun to anyone looking. A beautifully made pistol and a great job by Ruger for their first 1911 in the market. 5 stars without a doubt. Buy this and you won't be sorry...

  • Ruger's SR1911

Posted by Al on Jul 17th 2012

Concur with previous reviewer on the long wait for this pistol. I ordered mine on 7 Oct 2011 and it actually shipped to me on 15 May 2012. The finish on the pistol is out of the ball park. Absolutely beautiful. The only reason I can't rate it a 5 is the grip safety is fitted so loosely that it rattles. If you pick the pistol up and move it from side to side rapidly, it rattles. Very disappointing in a pistol that has such an excellent overall finish. It functions but I'd hoped for better in an all American made firearm. Other than this one flaw, it's a great gun. Very accurate out of the box with any type of ammo I've run thru it. While I was waiting for the Ruger, I bought the Taurus SS PT1911 with the bull's head grips. It cost about two bucks more than the Ruger and is loaded with custom features. All and all it's a better fitted pistol than the Ruger (see my review from 23 Apr 2012)with a grip safety that doesn't rattle, but it's not American made. If I had to choose between the two, I'd say you get more bang for your buck with the Taurus. Both shoot well and I'll keep them both.

After an excruciatingly long wait, but being repeatedly reassured by customer service I would finally get it: It finally came.

Absolutely worth the wait, a fine example of Ruger's interpretation of a classic American firearm. Slide is a perfect fit to the frame, barrel and bushing mating is perfect, very solid feel, very pleased. Bravo Ruger, you have outdone yourself.

.I have put more than 200 rounds of factory fmj with no misfeeds, no jans. The slide is tight. I Had to adjust front and rear sites. I find that my groupings are about an inch low at 20 - 25 feet. Over all I am exceptionally pleased. I am working on tighting up the accuracy. Two of us shot several rounds at this same distance with the same results. I am thinking of ordering a replacement front Novak site to improve accuracy. Any suggeations always welcome. I would hate to file down the front site on such a fine hand gun. I intend to put a few more rounds through it before deciding. I am on a waitiing list for another one.

I own (2) of the SR1911's both made in 2011 for the 100 yr anniversary. I bought the first one in july 2011 and after i shot it i put my name on a waiting list for a second one to put away in my safe and purchased the 2nd one december 2011. It hits where you aim it,it is light for a 1911 and most important to me it is 100% U.S.A. made. It is easy to dissasemble and clean. In my opinion it is by far the nicest 1911 for under a $1000 on the market and i would go as far as saying it shoots better than my kimber and my Ed brown custom hands down.If you are looking to buy an affordable 1911 look no further my friend ! This will be something you can pass on to your children and will be worth double what you paid for it in 10-15 years. Good luck and happy shooting to all.

Wanted to let the guys at Impact know how much I appreciate getting this Ruger 1911. I tried to get one everywhere for the longest time. Impact told me it would be a while, but assured me I would get one. It took a couple months, but then I got word they had one ready to ship, so I said GO.

It's a real nice pistol, I have about 2000 rounds thru it already. Trigger pull is great and I am using it at the local IDPA club shoots.

Posted by Joi on Oct 17th 2011

I bought and like this pistol. The good and bad.
First the good total rounds fired 600 rds
    1. Good looking
    2. Light recoil for 45acp good job Ruger
    3. Nice trigger
    4. Accurate VERY
    The bad.
8 rd factory mag mis-feed right away.
7 rd factory mag started mis-feeding after initial 200 rounds
Purchased after market Triple K 7 rd mag fired 200 rounds no problems. Hmmmm....
Ruger sent back both mags shot 7 rounds out of returned 7 rd factory mag mis-feed again. Hmmm did Ruger send me back the exact same mags? Maybe.
I bought a Wilson combat 7 rd mag but haven't used it yet. I will "order" a seperate 7 rd factory mag from Ruger and take it back out but looks like the "Ruger" factory mags for this might be an issue at the moment.

  • That'll Do Pig, That'll Do

Posted by Shane on Aug 6th 2011

Bought this gun the second I saw it on the shelf of my local gunshop. Traded in my SR9C for it; Figured a Ruger for a Ruger isn't a bad deal. I've put 200 rounds of quality jhp ammo down range (since this will be my home defense piece), and experienced zero ftf, and the only fte was on the first-fed round when using the topped off 8-round mag (that is, 8 + 1) *note: This happened 50% of the time* I always top-off my mags, but it seemed that the pressure of the mag spring was pushing my 2nd round out of position and, as a result, pinched the round between the breech and slide. Without the topped-off round, both mags worked without malfunction. I suppose I can live without my +1 - hell, shot placement is the most important thing anyways. The trigger on the Ruger1911 is why there are only 4 stars and not five. It's a little heavier than I'd like (between 5 and 6 lbs), and has a noticeable, staged creep. It's not a smooshy creepy, but a short, crisp break before the actual break that drops the hammer. A quick visit to the gunsmith will fix this, and make the gun a 5 star. This Ruger is virgin-tight. All stainless, all American - what's not to like?

The previous review would be more credable if they owned a Ruger SR 1911. I own a Metro Arms .45 junker. I can't give the damn thing away. It only fires ball ammo. No matter what brand of FMJ HP's you feed it, the damn thing jams. Plus, the fancy chrome leaps off everywhere the holster touches!

My Ruger SR1911 has has NEVER jamed and eats everything I feed it! So....own both before comparing.

  • Another Outstanding Ruger

Posted by RockDoctor on Jun 13th 2011

All of the Rugers I own are excellent well-made, well-engineered firearms and after reading all the reviews I bought the Ruger SR1911. I own a Wilson custom Colt Combat Commander and the Ruger is a nice match for it. After over 200 rounds I actually shoot better with the 3-dot Novak sights on the Ruger than with the Bomar on the Colt. The trigger on the Ruger is about 4 pounds and the Colt about 3 pounds.

The Ruger 1911 locks up tight, the trigger pull is crisp and after shooting hardball, JHP, an LSWC there were no FTF, FTE...nothing. It went bang every time. Prior to buying the Ruger, I wanted a basic GI 1911 and bought the High Standard GI, parts manufactured in the Philippines and assembled in Pahrumph, NV. It was an excellent shooter, nicely made, but not exacty what I was after.

Checking out the Ruger 1911 at a local gun store was convincing. After purchasing and shooting over a several day period I was amazed at the quality, accuracy and dependability of this pistol. Best of all all the parts are American Made.

If anyone needs any convincing, check out Dawnrange TV and the extensive testing at Gunsite.
