Drum magazines require more maintenance than box magazines — they have more moving parts, require proper lubrication of the feed spring and follower, and benefit from periodic cleaning to remove carbon and debris. Most reliability issues with drums trace to improper loading (overfilling), weak or dirty springs, or misalignment during insertion. Load drums to the stated capacity rather than forcing additional rounds. Store drums unloaded long-term to preserve spring tension.
