Just what you would expect from Ruger

Posted by WhiteFoot on Nov 4th 2015

After hauling and shooting my heavy 30-06 for many years, I wanted a more practical hunter. I looked at many more expensive types and money was so object, but ultimately weight and accuracy mattered most and this rifle excels in both. Weighs only 6lbs, match grade trigger, hammer-forged barrel, short throw, free-floated. The scope mounts were kinda cheap so I added a nightforce 20MOA canted full rail on the top for about $70 and bolted a Zeiss Conquest 3X9:40mm on top with low mounts to bring the scope closer to the center-bore. No problems with bolt action or scope clearance; there are no iron sights. Wow, what a tack driver for $400! Incredible bargain, Low recoil with 150-165 grains, Ruger quality, All American made. Super light for long treks. I also recommend a basic Ruger check-rest to bring the head up to the scope level. I'm hitting everything inside 300, haven't tried any longer yet.

    Pleasantly Surprised

Posted by Gary on Sep 24th 2014

After reading hundreds of great reviews of this rifle I decided to buy one for myself, and I couldn't be happier. It was purchased at my favorite "big box" sporting goods warehouse, in 308 caliber, and I also picked up a Vortex Diamondback 4x12 scope. I mounted the scope that afternoon, and bore sighted it using a Laserlyte at 20 yards. The next morning I was off to the range with great anticipation. I first sighted it at 25 yards, using Federal Power Shok 150 grain soft point ammo. I then moved the target out to 100 yards to dial it in. My first group of three shots were touching each other, and formed a perfect triangle within a 1 inch square. I adjusted my scope to move the point of impact, and then fired another three rounds, right in the center of the target, with another excellent grouping. The groups did start to loosen up with repeated firing, but even with a hot barrel they were still well within a half inch of each other. The trigger on this rifle is very good. I left it at the factory setting and it broke very well - nice and crisp, with no hesitation. The recoil is also very acceptable, with no cheek pain at all. I expected the .308 to kick the crap out me, but after firing 20 rounds my shoulder felt fine. I actually wanted to shoot another two boxes of ammo, but my time was limited. I'm not a professional shooter, and I don't compete in shooting events. I'm just a 50 year old dude with around 40 years of hunting, plinking and target shooting experience. That being said, this rifle makes me want to do more shooting. My previous comparable rifle was a Remington .270 bdl - which I really liked - but my new Ruger American is hands down a better rifle, and considering what I paid I couldn't be happier. I actually believe this rifle is worth much more than the retail price.

    Flawless rifle

Posted by Rush sterling on Jun 25th 2014

Now before I start on and on about how well this rifle is, i must say the only problem was that when you shoot it, the gun lifts a lot in the front. But I got a muzzle brake and it's no longer a problem. But besides that, this is the best gun I have ever owned! I shot 150 grain fusions at a quarter (100yds) and hit it smack in the middle, right below it, and to the left. The 70 degree bolt action works very well, and never rubs the scope. As light as it is, it has very little recoil out of a .308. Perfect hunting rifle out to 300 yards and closer. I put a Nikon 3-9x50 on mine, works great!!!!!! The gun comes with a scope attachment. And you can go online and get a stock cheek pad/bullet holder for free. This rifle works well in rainy/snowy/hot/ and it a very tough all around bad ass. It holds 4 rounds, 3 in the clip, and 1 in the chamber. I put a cheek pad, a Nikon 3-9x50 prostaff^,a sling, and a bipod. Perfect mix! This gun can make any shot that you can and more!

308 Ruger American Rifle ***A GREAT PIECE OF ART**

    Posted by garyhun49 on Jun 13th 2012

My friend and I purchased the 308 Ruger American Rifle in May of this year. We drove from Las Vegas NV. to Impact Guns in Salt Lake City to purchase two of these great rifles. Impact has always treated me right. Best price, great service, and honesty. I have purchased several weapons from them and have yet to be disappointed. The Ruger American is one of the best rifles I have ever owned. The action is crisp and smooth, the three lug bolt is flawless, with only a 70% lift to load the next round. Never worry about hitting your scope. Adjustable trigger is a nice feature. I have mine set at about 3 1/2 lbs. There is a noticable reduction in recoil. Very light weight and accurate. Using just a bipod, I held a three round group at 150 yrds. (size of a half dollar). This rifle is a great value at this introductory price. It will surely increase in price after this first year of being offered to the public. I could go on about how nice it feels, the light weight, the safety features, the rotating clip, etc. JUST BUY THIS WEAPON.. YOU WILL BE AMAZED AND GLAD YOU GOT IT AT THIS PRICE. RUGER IS MADE IN AMERICA FOR LAW ABIDING PEOPLE. I COULD FALL IN LOVE WITH A WOMAN THAT FELT THIS GOOD TO HOLD, AND GIVES ME THIS MUCH SATISFACTION. (dont tell my wife)
