From the Ruger Press Room
April 18, 2011

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce the Ruger® SR1911, an "All American" classic rendition of John Browning's most famous handgun design. The public debut of the Ruger SR1911 pistol will take place during the NRA Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania April 29 - May 1.

The single-action .45 Auto Ruger SR1911 features a bead-blasted stainless steel frame and slide, precision CNC machined for a precise slide-to-frame fit. The stainless steel barrel and bushing are produced simultaneously, from the same ordnance-grade barstock, for a precise fit and improved accuracy. The slide features rear cocking serrations and a dovetailed three-dot sight system with a Novak® rear sight and standard front sight.

"We are very proud to offer a 1911 pistol, an icon of American gun design and manufacturing," said Ruger CEO Michael Fifer. "In this 100-anniversary year of the introduction of the Government Model 1911 it is only fitting that such a firearm be completely manufactured in America with all American-made components."

The Ruger SR1911 pistol features a titanium firing pin and heavy firing pin spring, which negates the need for a firing pin block, offering an updated safety feature to the original "Series 70" design without compromising trigger pull weight. An extended thumb safety offers improved manipulation and an oversized beavertail grip safety provides positive function and reliability. A visual inspection port offers visual confirmation of a round in the chamber.

Positive extraction is facilitated by an improved internal extractor. The plunger tube for both the slide stop and thumb safety is integral to the frame and will never shoot loose. The swedged link pin also will not shoot loose. The SR1911 uses a skeletonized hammer and an aluminum, skeletonized trigger with an adjustable over-travel stop. The Ruger SR1911 features a standard recoil guide system and flat mainspring housing.

The Ruger SR1911 grips feature a Ruger logo in checkered hardwood panels. Each pistol is shipped with a bushing wrench and a soft case. The SR1911 will fit currently available holsters.

Posted by air force julian on May 26th 2013

got this from my local gunstore today 27 may 2013 after more than a month of waiting... i must say this is one very good-looking piece, its what all they say it is... nice fit, nice sights, trigger is crisp, great finish... i've shot 1911 g.i. before but they were all government-issued and somewhat loose due to wear and tear... i've shot also new ones but they were home-made and have many issues... this is my first-owned 1911, paid 74k including taxes and license, bought this over remington r1... i made the right chioce... make yours now!

Received my Sr1911 within 2 weeks and I love it. I currently own a Remington R1 but there's no comparison. Ruger rocks!

    Beautiful firearm

This is more of a shipping status for those of you on back order. I placed the order on January 12th and shipped on April 2nd. I was told last week it may be 2 more months but it shipped early :) I talked with Terry (Impact gunsmith) and wanted a trigger job added but the gun shipped before i could add it. Went to my FFL today to fill out the paperwork and I was immediately impressed with the fit, finish and feel of the gun. The trigger was still very crisp. The sights are not as pronounced as the pictures suggest, which I liked. The weight was perfect and the grip felt good, a full grip. You could skinny it with different grips but I don't mind it and the Ruger symbol has a classy look too. Can't wait to shoot it with some overpriced ammo but it's still nice to just look at. If you're hesitating, don't. You won't be disappointed. Well worth the wait. I'll update the review after a few trips to the range. I purchased this over a Remigton R1, Kimber Custom, and Taurus 1911.

    SR1911

    Posted by aa5b on Jan 24th 2013

The wait time is coming down for the SR1911. I back ordered the gun in September 2012 and received it at the end of January 2013. Four months is much better than I expected. Thanks Impact Guns! The firearm is beautiful and is worth much more than the price paid. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

I waited 7 months for mine and have put through 700 plus rounds, no jams and very accurate. Will order another one soon. This is the best handgun I have bought to date.

    You will not be disappointed,

Posted by Nazar on Dec 19th 2012

Waited about 6-7 months for mine. Finally got it shoots great, no hiccups, very accurate. After about 200 rounds I can say "you wouldn't go wrong if you back ordered this firearm." It's well worth the wait and money.
