Ruger Suspends GP100, LCR, SP101 & More: What to Know
Posted by Thomas on Nov 3rd 2026
In mid-October 2026, Ruger told its distributors it was pausing production on a long list of product families as part of its "Ruger 2030" strategy. The news, first reported by American Rifleman, touches some of the best-known revolvers and rifles in the Ruger catalog. Here is what was reported, what continues, and what it means if you have been eyeing one of these guns.
Production Halted Immediately
According to the reported distributor memo dated October 13, 2026, Ruger stopped production of four revolver lines right away:
- Ruger GP100 double-action revolver
- Ruger SP101 double-action revolver
- Ruger LCR lightweight carry revolver
- Ruger Bearcat single-action rimfire revolver
Final Production Runs Through 2026
A second group of product families is reported to get a final production run this year:
- Ruger SR1911
- Ruger LC Carbine and LC Charger
- Ruger PC Carbine and PC Charger
- Ruger Redhawk and Super Redhawk
- Ruger Blackhawk and Super Blackhawk
- Ruger Vaquero and the Single-Series revolvers
- Ruger No. 1 single-shot rifle
- 77-Series rifles and the Ruger Hawkeye
- Ruger Precision Rifle
Ruger has not published a model-by-model end date or production count for these lines.
Not Necessarily Gone for Good
Ruger spokesperson Abbey Clary told American Rifleman that the change "does not necessarily mean these product families are permanently discontinued." Ruger has described it as part of its long-range plan, so some of these names could return later in updated form. Ruger has not said that parts or factory service for existing guns will end.
What Ruger Is Still Making
The same report lists the lines continuing into 2027:
- Handguns: RXM, LCP family, MAX-9, Security-9 and Security-380, Ruger-57, Mark IV and 22 Charger
- Revolvers: Wrangler and Super Wrangler
- Rifles: American Rifle, American Rimfire, Precision Rimfire, Harrier, 10/22 and Mini-14
The shift points Ruger toward its newer, high-volume designs. Ruger's most recent pistol launch, the RXM, stays in the lineup.
What This Means for Buyers
If a GP100, SP101, LCR or Bearcat is on your list, new guns now come only from inventory already built. The final-run models will also get harder to find once those runs ship. Collectors may see added interest in specific calibers, barrel lengths and finishes. If one of these revolvers or rifles fits how you shoot, now is a good time to compare the configurations still available.
