Leupold DeltaPoint Pro
The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro is one of the most proven open-emitter red dot sights in competition and duty use—a 7.5 MOA or 2.5 MOA dot with a motion-sensing auto-brightness system, a wide 6×9mm field of view, and a tool-free windage and elevation adjustment system. Built on Leupold’s DiamondCoat 2 lens coating for maximum light transmission in any weather, the DeltaPoint Pro mounts directly to the slide on most optics-ready pistols via its own footprint or adapter plates, and seats low enough on a rifle rail to maintain a comfortable cheek weld. It’s the optic that serious USPSA, 3-Gun, and precision pistol competitors return to year after year.

DeltaPoint Pro vs. Trijicon RMR: The Two Competition Standards
The Leupold DeltaPoint Pro and Trijicon RMR are the two most specified red dots in USPSA Open and Carry Optics divisions. The RMR uses a smaller window with a 1.1×0.87-inch aperture; the DeltaPoint Pro runs a 6×9mm window—noticeably wider and taller. That larger window means faster target acquisition, particularly during rapid multiple-target engagements. The RMR has a proven reputation for shock resistance under hard-recoiling calibers and sustained high round counts. For competition use where round count is moderate and speed matters most, the DeltaPoint Pro’s wider window wins. For duty use under worst-case conditions, both perform, but the RMR has the longer verified track record in those environments.
7.5 MOA vs. 2.5 MOA Dot: Which Should You Choose?
Leupold offers the DeltaPoint Pro in both a 7.5 MOA dot and a 2.5 MOA dot. At 25 yards, a 7.5 MOA dot covers approximately 2 inches of the target; a 2.5 MOA dot covers under an inch. For defensive use and fast USPSA-style shooting, the larger 7.5 MOA dot is faster to acquire and easier to find in the window when your draw isn’t perfect. For precision pistol, PCC competition, and any application where 50–100-yard accuracy matters, the 2.5 MOA dot gives you a finer reference point that doesn’t obscure the bullseye. Most shooters transitioning from irons to optics find the 7.5 MOA dot easier to learn on; experienced competitors often switch to 2.5 MOA once they’ve built the target-finding reflex.
DeltaPoint Pro Pistol Mounting: Footprint and Compatibility
The DeltaPoint Pro uses Leupold’s own mounting footprint, which is compatible with an adapter plate on most optics-ready pistol slides. Direct DeltaPoint Pro cuts are standard on several pistols including Walther PDP, Springfield Echelon, and select Sig Sauer models. For Glock MOS, CZ, and other platforms, Leupold’s included adapter plates cover most configurations. The DeltaPoint Pro also mounts via Picatinny rail on rifles, shotguns, and PCCs using Leupold’s rail mount, which is included or available separately. The sight’s low profile makes it compatible with standard-height iron sights as a backup on most pistols without requiring suppressor-height sights.
DeltaPoint Pro Battery Life and Auto-Brightness System
The DeltaPoint Pro runs on a CR2032 battery accessible from the top without removing the optic from the gun—a critical feature for duty and competition use where battery swaps happen without a takedown. Leupold rates battery life at approximately 1,500 hours at medium brightness. The motion-sensing auto-brightness system wakes the dot from sleep mode when it detects movement and dims or shuts off after inactivity, extending battery life without sacrificing instant-on reliability when the gun is picked up. The system reacts in under a second—fast enough for defensive use. For shooters who prefer manual control, the push-button system allows direct brightness adjustment independent of the auto mode.
DeltaPoint Pro vs. Holosun 507C: Value vs. Premium
The Holosun 507C and DeltaPoint Pro compete directly in the competition red dot segment. The Holosun offers a 32 MOA circle-dot reticle option, solar backup power, and a longer rated battery life at a lower price point. The DeltaPoint Pro offers Leupold’s proven DiamondCoat 2 optical quality, a wider window, and a reputation built through years of hard competition use. For shooters on a budget building their first optic-ready pistol, the Holosun delivers strong value. For experienced competitors who have already shot both and prioritize glass quality and window size over feature count, the DeltaPoint Pro justifies its premium. Both are well-supported with holster and mount options.
