B&T GHM9
The B&T GHM9 is a compact 9mm pistol-caliber carbine from Brügger & Thomet, the Swiss manufacturer that supplies special operations units across Europe and the U.S. with some of the most refined small arms available. The GHM9—designed as a more accessible entry point into the B&T lineup than the full APC9 platform—combines a hydraulic buffer system, folding stock, and threaded barrel in a compact 9mm carbine that has developed a strong following among PCCs enthusiasts who want genuine Swiss engineering without the full APC price tag.

What Is B&T (Brügger & Thomet)?
Brügger & Thomet (B&T) is a Swiss firearms and accessory manufacturer founded in 1991 and headquartered in Thun, Switzerland. The company supplies the Swiss Armed Forces, German police units, and special operations forces across NATO with a range of small arms including the APC9, APC556, USW pistol, and TP9 submachine gun. B&T entered the U.S. civilian market with semi-automatic versions of their service weapons, bringing Swiss manufacturing quality and engineering to American shooters. The GHM9 was developed as a cost-optimized platform using shared components from the APC and KH9 lines to provide B&T quality at a more accessible price point.
GHM9 Hydraulic Buffer: What It Does
The GHM9’s most technically distinctive feature is its hydraulic buffer system, which uses a fluid-dampened buffer to slow and cushion the bolt during the rearward cycle. This produces a notably softer felt recoil impulse compared to standard blowback PCCs, which typically have a sharp, snappy recoil from the unsupported bolt mass slamming rearward against a conventional spring. Reviewers consistently note that the GHM9 shoots closer to a delayed-blowback system than its blowback architecture would suggest. For suppressed shooting — which increases bolt velocity — the hydraulic buffer helps maintain controllable recoil that would otherwise be amplified.
GHM9 Configurations: Pistol and Carbine
The B&T GHM9 is available in both pistol and carbine configurations. The pistol variant ships without a stock and with an 8″ barrel, classifying it as a pistol under federal law. The carbine version adds a folding stock and typically uses a 16″ barrel to meet rifle length requirements. The folding stock collapses the carbine to a highly compact overall length for transport. For shooters interested in an SBR build, the GHM9 pistol with a registered stock is a natural platform — since January 2026, the NFA tax stamp fee has been eliminated, making the Form 1 SBR registration process significantly more accessible.
GHM9 Magazine Compatibility
The B&T GHM9 uses B&T’s own proprietary double-stack 9mm magazines, available in 17, 21, and 30-round capacities. Unlike competing PCCs such as the S&W Response or Ruger PC Carbine that use Glock-pattern magazines, the GHM9 does not share magazines with common pistol platforms. This is the primary practical tradeoff of choosing the GHM9 — you cannot use the same magazines as your Glock or Sig pistol. B&T magazines are well-made but more expensive than Glock-pattern aftermarket options. For shooters who prioritize the GHM9’s hydraulic buffer and Swiss build quality over magazine commonality, this is an acceptable tradeoff.
GHM9 as a Suppressor Host
The GHM9 has developed a strong reputation as one of the best 9mm suppressor hosts available. The threaded muzzle (M15x1 thread pitch) accepts a wide range of 9mm suppressors, and the hydraulic buffer system that controls recoil on the unsuppressed gun is even more valuable when suppressed — the buffer absorbs the additional bolt velocity that wet-gas suppressor systems generate. Running the GHM9 suppressed with subsonic 9mm ammunition produces a genuinely quiet shooting experience. The folding stock option means the suppressed package remains compact and packable.
