A binary trigger fires one round when the trigger is pulled (like a standard trigger) and one additional round when the trigger is released. Each trigger movement — pull or release — constitutes a separate semi-automatic firing event, which is why binary triggers are legal as semi-automatic devices federally and in most states. The shooter can cancel the release shot at any time by holding the trigger down, maintaining full control. Binary triggers are federally legal semi-automatic devices but several states restrict or prohibit them.
