UTAS UTS-15

The UTAS UTS-15 is the highest-capacity production pump shotgun ever made — a bullpup 12-gauge with two parallel magazine tubes that each hold 7 rounds, feeding alternately into the chamber for 14+1 total capacity. More than double what most tactical shotguns offer, in an overall package shorter than a standard 18.5” barrel shotgun thanks to the bullpup layout. The UTS-15 ships with a flashlight and green laser kit integrated into the forend rail system, making it one of the most fully equipped factory tactical shotguns available straight from the box.

The Dual-Tube System: How 14 Rounds Works

The UTS-15’s twin magazine tubes run parallel above the barrel, each holding 7 rounds of 2¾” shells. A selector switch on top of the receiver allows the shooter to choose which tube feeds — left tube only, right tube only, or alternating between tubes for the full 14-round sequential feed. The alternating mode draws one shell from the left tube, then one from the right, continuing until both are empty. This architecture solves the fundamental capacity limitation of single-tube pump shotguns without extending overall length, using the bullpup layout’s rearward weight distribution to keep the twin tubes compact and manageable. Loading is straightforward once the system is understood — each tube loads independently through its own port.

Bullpup Layout: Compact Package, Full Barrel

The UTS-15’s bullpup configuration places the action and magazine tubes behind the trigger group, which allows an 18.5” barrel in an overall length that would require a 12” barrel in a conventional layout. This means the UTS-15 delivers full 12-gauge velocity — buckshot patterns and slug performance comparable to any standard tactical shotgun — in a more compact package that stores and maneuvers more easily in confined spaces. For home defense buyers who need to navigate a hallway or clear a doorway, the UTS-15’s shorter overall length relative to its barrel length is a genuine tactical advantage over conventional configurations.

Included Kit: Flashlight and Green Laser

The UTS-15 ships with an integrated forend rail system and an included kit comprising a flashlight and green laser sight. For home defense buyers, an integrated light is essential for target identification before firing — the green laser provides a visible aiming reference that is faster than traditional sights in low-light situations where fine motor skills are compromised. Receiving a factory-installed light and laser kit with the shotgun eliminates the research, purchase, and installation work that aftermarket accessories require on most tactical shotguns. The kit’s 3” chamber rating allows use of the most powerful 12-gauge defensive loads including 3” magnum buckshot and slugs.

14-Round Capacity: What It Means in Practice

Starting with 14+1 rounds of 12-gauge buckshot changes the defensive calculus considerably compared to the 5+1 or 7+1 capacity of conventional tactical shotguns. With standard 00 buckshot delivering 8–9 pellets per shell at approximately .33 caliber each, the UTS-15’s 14 rounds delivers 112+ projectiles before reloading — more than sufficient for any realistic defensive scenario without the mid-engagement reload that lower-capacity shotguns may require. For home defense buyers who want maximum standby capacity in a single firearm, the UTS-15’s dual-tube system provides a depth of fire that no conventional pump shotgun can match.

Operating Considerations: Learning the UTS-15

The UTS-15’s unconventional layout requires more familiarization than a conventional shotgun. The bullpup trigger linkage produces a longer pull feel than conventional pump shotguns — a characteristic of bullpup designs generally that most shooters adapt to with practice. The dual-tube loading process requires deliberate attention to which tube is loaded and which feeds first. The alternating feed selector should be understood and practiced before defensive use to ensure the system operates as expected under stress. Like all unusual platforms, the UTS-15 rewards dedicated familiarization; buyers who invest range time in learning its operation will find it a capable and distinctive defensive tool.
