Taurus TH Series
The Taurus TH series is a family of hammer-fired DA/SA pistols covering four calibers and two frame sizes—the most comprehensive traditional DA/SA lineup Taurus produces. All TH pistols share the same operating system: a double-action first shot from a decocked hammer followed by crisp single-action for subsequent rounds, with an ambidextrous manual safety/decocker, Novak-style sights, and a Picatinny rail. Available in 9mm (TH9), 10mm (TH10), .40 S&W (TH40), and .45 ACP (TH45) in full-size configurations, plus the compact THC in 9mm and .40 S&W, the TH family covers virtually every DA/SA buyer need at a price point well below European competitors.

TH9: The 9mm Foundation
The TH9 is the most popular TH configuration—a full-size 9mm with a 4.25” barrel, 17-round magazine, and Novak-style sights. It is the most direct value comparison to the SIG P226 and Beretta 92 in its category: DA/SA, external hammer, manual safety, polymer frame, full-size grip. At Taurus’s price point versus those European competitors, the TH9 delivers comparable specifications for significantly less. For buyers who want a DA/SA 9mm for home defense, range use, or duty carry without the premium brand pricing, the TH9 is the starting point.
TH10: The 10mm Option
The TH10 brings 10mm Auto to the TH platform—a 4.27” barrel, 15-round magazine, and the same DA/SA operating system as the TH9. 10mm Auto delivers substantially more muzzle energy than 9mm, making the TH10 appropriate for hunting, backcountry defense against large predators, and buyers who specifically want the cartridge’s terminal performance. At its price point, the TH10 is one of the most affordable full-size 10mm DA/SA pistols available—the primary competition comes from the Glock 20 (striker-fired) and the EAA Witness (DA/SA but European-priced).
TH40 and TH40 Compact: The .40 S&W Options
The TH40 full-size uses a 4.25” barrel and 15-round magazine. The TH40 Compact uses a 3.54” barrel and 11-round flush magazine (accepts full-size 15-round magazines as an extended option). Both use .40 S&W, which delivers more energy than 9mm while remaining controllable in a full-size frame. For law enforcement buyers who carry .40 S&W by policy, or buyers who specifically want the cartridge’s terminal characteristics, the TH40 delivers DA/SA .40 S&W at a price point that undercuts most competing platforms.
TH45: The .45 ACP Full-Size
The TH45 is Taurus’s .45 ACP entry in the TH family—a 4.27” barrel, 13-round double-stack magazine, and the same DA/SA platform. 13+1 rounds of .45 ACP in a DA/SA polymer-frame pistol is genuinely uncommon; most .45 ACP competitors either use striker-fired actions (Glock 21) or single-stack 1911 formats (limited capacity). For buyers who specifically want DA/SA .45 ACP with modern capacity, the TH45 has essentially no domestic competition at its price point.
THC: The Compact Series
The Taurus THC is the compact variant of the TH platform, available in 9mm and .40 S&W with a 3.54” barrel and reduced-height grip. At approximately 11 rounds flush (accepts full-size magazines), the THC is sized for concealed carry use while retaining the TH series’ DA/SA operating system. For buyers who want the TH’s hammer-fired manual of arms in a carry-sized package, the THC is the appropriate configuration.
TH Series DA/SA: Why It Still Has Appeal in 2026
The DA/SA operating system with external hammer offers specific advantages that striker-fired designs don’t: a visible, tactile hammer position that confirms the pistol’s state at a glance; a longer, heavier DA first shot that some carry shooters prefer for its additional safety margin; and crisp SA subsequent shots that reward disciplined trigger technique. For buyers transitioning from service pistols like the Beretta 92 or SIG P226, the TH series replicates that manual of arms at a fraction of the replacement cost.
