Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 Carry Comp
The Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 Carry Comp is a Performance Center family of ported pistols available in 9mm and 10mm Auto, built around S&W’s PowerPort compensation system. By porting the barrel and slide at the 12 o’clock position, the Carry Comp vents propellant gases upward to counteract muzzle rise — delivering faster follow-up shots and reduced shooter fatigue without sacrificing power or capacity. Every model ships with a Performance Center trigger, Ameriglo night sights, and a ClearSight optics-ready slide cut.

What Is the PowerPort Compensation System?
PowerPort uses ports cut through the barrel and matching cuts in the slide at the 12 o’clock position to redirect propellant gases upward as the bullet exits. The upward gas venting creates a downward force on the muzzle that counteracts rise during firing. The ClearSight cut positions the optic rearward of the ports so gas does not obscure the sight picture when running a red dot. On 9mm the effect reduces split times noticeably; on 10mm — a caliber with a significantly stiffer recoil impulse — the compensation is a meaningful practical advantage for fast follow-up shots.
Carry Comp Models: Full Lineup
M&P9 M2.0 Compact Carry Comp — 9mm, 4.22” ported barrel, 15+1 capacity, polymer frame. The core Carry Comp model for buyers who want 9mm compensation in a compact carry package.
M&P9 M2.0 Metal Carry Comp — 9mm, 17+1 capacity, aluminum frame. The aluminum frame adds weight that further dampens recoil, and the higher capacity makes it the strongest choice for duty or home defense use.

Carry Comp vs Standard M&P 2.0: Is the Upgrade Worth It?
The Carry Comp models carry a price premium over the standard M&P 2.0, but the Performance Center package justifies it for most buyers. The ported barrel and slide are the headline feature, but the Performance Center trigger — with a lighter, crisper pull than the standard M&P 2.0 — and the factory Ameriglo night sights mean the Carry Comp ships ready to use without additional investment in trigger work or sight upgrades. For buyers who would otherwise spend money on aftermarket upgrades to a standard M&P 2.0, the Carry Comp often works out to comparable total cost with the added benefit of factory compensation.
10mm Carry Comp for Bear Country and Hunting
The 10mm Carry Comp is particularly well suited for hunters and backcountry users who carry a pistol as a backup against large predators. 10mm Auto delivers significantly more energy than 9mm or .45 ACP at hunting-relevant distances, making it the most practical semi-auto cartridge for bear defense. The PowerPort compensation makes that power more manageable for fast follow-up shots — critical in a defensive encounter with a large animal. Pair it with hard-cast or bonded defensive loads from our 10mm pistol page for maximum penetration.
