Rail Lasers
A weapon-mounted light is one of the most practical upgrades for any defensive firearm — the ability to identify a target in low-light conditions is fundamental to safe defensive use. Rail-mounted lasers add a visible or infrared aiming point that allows accurate fire without needing to achieve a perfect sight picture. Impact Guns stocks 65 rail-mounted lights and laser combinations from Alliance, Streamlight, Viridian, and other leading manufacturers for pistols, rifles, and shotguns.

Weapon Lights: Why Every Defensive Firearm Should Have One
Most defensive encounters occur in low-light or no-light conditions. A weapon-mounted light allows positive target identification — the legal and ethical requirement before using deadly force — and temporarily blinds and disorients a threat. The Picatinny or M-LOK rail found on most modern pistols and rifles accepts weapon lights directly. Streamlight’s TLR series and SureFire’s X300 are the law enforcement standards. For home defense, a weapon-mounted light is more reliable than a handheld light because it keeps both hands on the firearm. Output matters: 500 lumens minimum for indoor use, 1,000+ lumens for outdoor or vehicle use.
Laser Sighting Systems: Red vs. Green vs. IR Lasers
Red lasers are the most affordable and work well in low-light conditions but wash out in bright daylight. Green lasers are significantly more visible to the human eye — up to 4× brighter in perceived visibility — and remain effective in most lighting conditions, making them the preferred choice for most buyers. Infrared (IR) lasers are invisible to the naked eye and used exclusively with night vision devices — not useful for civilian defensive applications without NVGs. Viridian produces some of the most popular green laser systems for pistol use, with Instant-On technology that activates when drawn from a compatible holster.
Combo Light/Laser Units: The Practical Choice for Most Buyers
Combined weapon light and laser units occupy a single rail slot while providing both capabilities — the most space-efficient solution for compact pistols and rifles with limited rail length. The Alliance RM600LSR series pairs a 600-lumen light with a rail-mounted laser in a single unit. These combo units are popular for home defense pistols where mounting both a dedicated light and laser separately would be impractical on a short rail. The trade-off is that combo units typically offer less output than dedicated lights of the same price — if maximum lumens are the priority, a dedicated light is the better choice.
Rail Compatibility: Picatinny, M-LOK & Pistol Rails
Most weapon lights use one of three mounting systems. Picatinny (MIL-STD-1913) rails are the military standard, found on AR-15 handguards, rifle receivers, and most full-size pistols. M-LOK is a more modern modular system found on most modern AR-15 handguards — M-LOK lights require either direct M-LOK mounting or a Picatinny adapter section. Pistol rails on compact and subcompact pistols are typically proprietary or use the universal rail standard (1913) in a shorter section. Always verify rail compatibility before purchasing — most manufacturers list compatible platforms on the product page.
Weapon Lights for Specific Platforms
Rail length varies significantly by platform. Full-size duty pistols (Glock 17, P320, FN 509) accept standard TLR-1 and X300 size units. Compact pistols (Glock 19, Hellcat) may require compact light options. AR-15s with full-length handguards have unlimited mounting real estate. Shotguns with magazine tube-mounted rails accept most rifle-format lights. For suppressor builds, verify the light clears the can’s diameter before purchasing.
