New Springfield SA-35 4-Inch Compact: The Baby Hi-Power Buyers Have Been Waiting For

Springfield Armory just gave the SA-35 a shorter barrel — and it changes what the pistol is for. The original SA-35 launched with a 4.7-inch barrel that stayed faithful to the classic Browning Hi-Power proportions. The new 4-inch compact variant trims that down, dropping overall length to 7.1 inches while keeping the same 15-round capacity, single-action trigger, and control layout that made the full-size version popular.

What Actually Changed

The compact's barrel is 4 inches instead of 4.7, cold hammer forged with the same 1:10 twist as the original. Overall length comes down to 7.1 inches and height to 4.8 inches, with weight at 29.8 ounces — close to the full-size gun's heft, since the frame and slide width are unchanged. It ships in a matte blued finish with checkered walnut grips. Nothing about the operating system changed: it's the same hammer-fired, single-action-only Hi-Power pattern, with the magazine disconnect safety Springfield removed on the original SA-35 still absent here.

Why Buyers Are Asking About It

The 4.7-inch SA-35 was always a full-size gun first — a faithful modern Hi-Power, not a carry pistol. The 4-inch compact is Springfield's answer to the obvious next question: what if you want that same slim steel frame and crisp single-action trigger in something easier to carry? A 7.1-inch overall length puts it in range of other compact steel-frame single-stacks, without giving up the 15-round capacity that made the double-stack Hi-Power pattern worth reviving in the first place.

Where It Fits Next to the Rest of the SA-35 Line

Springfield also released a Polished Blued finish option in 2026, giving buyers a brighter, more traditional blued look alongside the standard black and Parkerized finishes already offered across the line. Between the new barrel length and the new finish, the SA-35 lineup now covers both ends of what Hi-Power buyers tend to ask for: the traditional full-size gun for range and home defense, and a genuinely more concealable option for daily carry.
