940 Pro Reliability: What to Expect

The 940 Pro series requires a break-in period — Mossberg recommends 50–100 rounds of standard or high-velocity loads before running light target ammunition or subsonic loads. During break-in, stick to standard 1-1/8 oz. or heavier loads. After break-in, the self-regulating gas system handles the full range. Early production 940 Pro models (2021–2022) had some reported cycling issues that Mossberg addressed with updated components — guns produced after mid-2022 reflect these improvements.
