Holosun EPS

The Holosun EPS is the full-size version of Holosun's enclosed reflex sight platform — a fully sealed red dot optic designed for full-size and compact duty pistols, competition guns, and home defense firearms. Like the EPS Carry, it features an enclosed emitter that protects the LED from debris and contact damage, Solar Failsafe dual-power operation, and Shake Awake motion activation. Unlike the EPS Carry, the full-size EPS uses a larger footprint and is available with reticle options including a 2 MOA dot and a 32 MOA circle-dot combination — making it a versatile choice for shooters who want both a precision dot and a fast-acquisition ring.

EPS vs. EPS Carry: Choosing the Right Size

The EPS and EPS Carry share the same enclosed emitter design and core technology but are different sizes for different applications. The EPS Carry uses Holosun's K footprint — designed for micro-compact carry pistols like the Sig P365, Glock 43X MOS, and Springfield Hellcat. The full-size EPS uses a larger footprint compatible with full-size and compact pistols like the Glock 17 MOS, Sig P320, and Springfield Echelon. The EPS is also available with a circle-dot reticle option not offered on the EPS Carry. If your pistol is a micro-compact carry gun, you need the EPS Carry. If it's a full-size duty, competition, or home defense pistol, the EPS is the correct choice.

Enclosed Emitter: Why It Matters

Traditional open-emitter red dots — including Holosun's own 507C and 509T — expose the LED emitter to the environment. Debris, moisture, and physical contact can obscure or damage the emitter. The EPS seals the entire optical system behind a protected window, eliminating these failure modes. For duty use, competition shooting where the gun is handled roughly, or home defense where the optic may sit loaded and uncleaned for extended periods, the enclosed design is a meaningful reliability advantage. The tradeoff versus open-emitter sights is a slightly larger housing and, in some configurations, a higher price point.

Reticle Options: 2 MOA Dot vs. Circle-Dot

The EPS is available in three reticle configurations. The 2 MOA dot (EPS RD / EPS GD) provides a precise aiming point for accurate shots at distance — the best choice for competition shooters who want dot-only precision. The 32 MOA circle-dot combines a 2 MOA center dot with a 32 MOA outer ring — the ring enables extremely fast target acquisition at close range while the center dot handles precision shots at distance. For duty and home defense applications, the circle-dot is often the preferred reticle because the large ring snaps to the target faster than hunting for a 2 MOA dot under stress. For competition precision work, the dot-only is cleaner. The green dot variants (GD) offer better daylight visibility for some shooters; red is more common and slightly less battery-intensive.

Pistol Compatibility and Footprint

The full-size EPS uses the same footprint as the Holosun 507C and is compatible with pistols cut for the 507C / DeltaPoint Pro pattern. This includes the Glock 17/19/34 MOS, Sig P320 with optics-ready slide, Springfield Echelon, Walther Q4 SF, and most full-size pistols with optics cuts. Verify your specific pistol's footprint before purchasing — full-size pistols use different optics cuts than micro-compacts, and the EPS and EPS Carry are not interchangeable.

Solar Failsafe and Battery Life

The EPS uses Holosun's Solar Failsafe system — a solar cell supplements the CR1632 battery in ambient light, dramatically extending battery life. In normal indoor and outdoor lighting conditions, the solar cell handles most of the power load. Holosun rates battery life at 50,000+ hours in standard operation. Shake Awake puts the sight into low-power sleep after inactivity and activates immediately on motion. For a duty or home defense pistol that may sit for days or weeks between use, Shake Awake ensures the sight is live when you pick up the gun without requiring a manual power check.

EPS vs. 507C: Upgrading to Enclosed

If you currently run a Holosun 507C on a full-size pistol and are considering upgrading, the EPS is the direct replacement — same footprint, same core technology, enclosed housing. The practical benefit depends on your use case: for a competition gun that gets cleaned regularly, the 507C is excellent and the EPS upgrade is optional. For a duty gun or a home defense pistol that may go long periods without attention, the enclosed housing is worth the upgrade cost. Both sights are excellent; the EPS is the better choice when environment and neglect resistance matter.
