Holosun 507 Comp

The Holosun 507 Comp is a purpose-built competition pistol red dot sight featuring a significantly larger window than standard pistol optics—designed specifically for USPSA, IDPA, and Steel Challenge shooters who want the fastest possible target acquisition in a Carry Optics or Open division setup. Available in K footprint (subcompact-compatible) and C footprint (full-size pistol) versions, both feature Holosun's Solar Failsafe charging, Shake Awake motion-sensing activation, and the Multi-Reticle System (MRS) allowing switching between a 2 MOA dot, 32 MOA circle, or the combined circle-dot reticle. The oversized window is the defining feature—it provides a dramatically wider field of view than the 507C or 507K, making transitional shots between targets faster in competition.

507 Comp vs 507C: What's Different

The Holosun 507C is the standard full-size pistol optic with a proven track record for duty and carry use. The 507 Comp uses the same core electronics and reticle system in a body with a substantially larger window—the viewing area is approximately 40% larger than the 507C. This larger window is the reason for the "Comp" designation—in competition, where a shooter transitions between targets rapidly and may not achieve a perfect cheek weld on every draw, the larger window means the dot is more likely to be visible immediately without adjusting head position. For a carry or duty pistol used in a static holster, the size difference of the 507 Comp is a liability in the holster and unnecessary at the range. For a competition shooter running a dedicated stage gun, the window advantage is real and measurable.

507 Comp K vs 507 Comp C: Which Footprint?

The 507 Comp is available in two footprint versions. The K version uses the subcompact footprint compatible with direct mounting on Glock 43X MOS, Sig Sauer P365, Springfield Hellcat, and other subcompact optics-ready slides. The C version uses the full-size footprint compatible with Glock 17/19 MOS, Sig Sauer P320 X-Carry, and most full-size optics-ready slides. For competition use, the C footprint on a full-size pistol is the more common setup—the larger grip of a full-size pistol is preferred in Carry Optics division for recoil management, and the 507 Comp C pairs naturally with Glock 17/34 MOS, P320 X5, and similar competition-oriented full-size platforms.

Multi-Reticle System: Circle Dot for Competition

Holosun's Multi-Reticle System on the 507 Comp allows switching between three reticle configurations: a 2 MOA dot alone for precision work, a 32 MOA circle alone for fast close-range acquisition, and the combined 32 MOA circle with 2 MOA center dot. The combined circle-dot is the most popular for competition—the large circle provides extremely fast initial acquisition at close distances while the center dot gives precision for longer stage shots. Switching between reticles is done by holding the down brightness button, making it field-adjustable. Most competition shooters settle on the circle-dot configuration and leave it there; the ability to switch is useful during initial setup and zeroing.

Solar Failsafe and Shake Awake

The 507 Comp includes Holosun's Solar Failsafe technology—a solar cell on the top of the body that supplements battery power in sufficient light, extending battery life to 50,000+ hours in optimal conditions. The CR1632 battery provides 50,000 hours of run time at setting 6 (mid-brightness), effectively making battery management a non-issue for competition use. Shake Awake automatically activates the sight when movement is detected, allowing the optic to sleep between stages without manual shutdown, while waking instantly when the pistol is picked up. For a competition shooter who runs multiple stages across a full day, these features eliminate the battery anxiety that was a concern with earlier pistol optics.

Mounting the 507 Comp

The 507 Comp mounts directly to optics-ready slides using the standard footprint screws included with the optic. Torque the mounting screws to 15–18 in-lbs using a torque driver—under-torqued screws will shift under recoil, destroying your zero. Blue Loctite (242) on the screws prevents loosening without permanently bonding the optic. Verify that your slide's cut matches the K or C footprint before ordering—the two footprints are not interchangeable. For slides that require an adapter plate, Holosun and aftermarket suppliers offer plates for common footprint mismatches.
