Holosun 407C

The Holosun 407C is an open-emitter reflex red dot sight with a single 2 MOA dot reticle, Solar Failsafe backup power, Shake Awake auto-on technology, and an RMR-compatible footprint — the most popular budget alternative to the Trijicon RMR for both pistol and rifle use. The “C” in 407C designates the full-size reflex housing (as opposed to the smaller 407K for micro-compact pistols), and the 407 series uses a simple dot reticle rather than the circle-dot of the 507 series.

407C vs. 507C: Dot vs. Circle-Dot

The 407C and 507C share the same housing, battery, solar panel, Shake Awake, and RMR footprint. The only difference is the reticle: the 407C offers a single 2 MOA dot, while the 507C offers a switchable 2 MOA dot, 32 MOA circle, or combined circle-dot. If you want the simplest possible red dot with no reticle decisions to make, the 407C is the right choice. If you want the circle-dot option for faster target acquisition at speed, the 507C is worth the modest price step.

RMR Footprint: Universal Compatibility

The 407C uses the Trijicon RMR mounting footprint — the most common pistol optic footprint in the industry. Any slide milled for an RMR or any RMR-pattern mounting plate will accept the 407C directly, which means compatibility with optics-ready pistols from Glock (MOS), Sig Sauer, Walther (PDP), CZ, Smith & Wesson, and many others without adapter plates.

Solar Failsafe and Shake Awake

The solar panel on top of the housing provides backup power in ambient light, extending battery life well beyond the rated 50,000 hours on the CR2032 cell. Shake Awake puts the optic to sleep after a user-configurable idle period and wakes it instantly on motion — meaning you can leave it mounted on a carry pistol without draining the battery, and the dot will be on when you draw.

407C X2 vs. 407C Green

The 407C X2 is the current-generation red-dot version. The 407C Green uses a green LED instead of red — green dots are easier for many shooters to pick up in bright daylight due to the human eye’s higher sensitivity to green wavelengths. Both share the same housing, footprint, and features.

Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun Use

The 407C is rated for both handgun and long-gun recoil. On a pistol slide, it’s one of the most popular carry optics in USPSA Carry Optics division and for concealed-carry red dot setups. On an AR-15 or shotgun, it’s a lightweight, low-profile reflex sight that works well for close-to-mid range shooting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between the 407C and 507C?
Reticle only. The 407C has a 2 MOA dot; the 507C adds a 32 MOA circle and circle-dot option. Same housing, same features.

Will the 407C fit my Glock MOS slide?
Yes — the 407C uses the RMR footprint, which is directly compatible with Glock MOS plates.

How long does the battery last?
Up to 50,000 hours on the CR2032, supplemented by Solar Failsafe in ambient light.

407C vs. Trijicon RMR?
The RMR is the duty-proven standard with the strongest housing; the 407C offers solar backup, Shake Awake, and a significantly lower price. For duty/carry where absolute proven durability matters, the RMR. For everything else, the 407C is the value play.
