Harrington & Richardson
Harrington & Richardson is one of America’s oldest firearms manufacturers, founded in 1871 in Worcester, Massachusetts and relaunched in 2023 under Palmetto State Armory with a focus on historically authentic recreations of rare and significant American firearms. Where most retro AR builders produce M16A1-style rifles, H&R under PSA goes deeper — reproducing specific configurations that existed in very limited numbers, were fielded by federal agencies, or were prototypes that never reached civilian hands. The result is a brand whose products generate genuine collector interest alongside practical shooting appeal.

H&R DOE Pistol: The Federal Agency 9mm
The H&R DOE Pistol recreates the Department of Energy submachine gun configuration issued to nuclear facility security personnel in the 1980s — one of the most historically obscure and collectible AR-platform configurations ever fielded. In 9mm with a 7.5-inch barrel, slick-side carry handle upper, DOE-pattern triangular handguard, and H&R HAR-15 adjustable brace, the DOE Pistol is available as a complete pistol or upper assembly. It is the only production civilian recreation of the DOE SMG configuration currently available.
H&R Model 606: The First Heavy-Barrel AR-15
The H&R Model 606 is PSA’s recreation of the first true heavy-barrel AR-15 ever produced — a rifle that existed primarily in collector forums for sixty years before the H&R relaunch. Built with a 20-inch chrome-lined HBAR barrel, slick-side M16-style receiver, M16A1 triangular handguards, fixed A1 stock, and included M2-style bipod, the Model 606 is a faithful reproduction of a piece of AR-15 history that very few shooters have ever held. Released May 15, 2026, it is the most historically significant H&R product to date.
H&R Retro AR-15 Rifles
H&R’s retro AR-15 lineup covers the M16A1 and M16A2 configurations in 5.56 NATO — 20-inch chrome-lined barrels, period-correct handguards, fixed stocks, and birdcage flash hiders built to the original specifications. These rifles appeal to veterans who carried the A1 or A2 in service, collectors who appreciate the historical significance of the original M16 configuration, and shooters who prefer the balance and handling of a 20-inch fixed-stock rifle over modern collapsible-stock ARs. H&R retro ARs under PSA production bring these configurations to market at accessible price points compared to Colt and other premium retro builders.
H&R Single-Shot Rifles and Shotguns
H&R’s original pre-PSA legacy included an extensive line of single-shot break-action rifles and shotguns that served as first guns, youth firearms, and practical hunting tools for generations of American shooters. PSA’s H&R relaunch has focused primarily on the retro AR segment, but the single-shot heritage remains part of the H&R brand identity and may see additional products as the relaunch continues.
Why PSA Chose H&R
Palmetto State Armory acquired H&R specifically because the brand’s history gave them access to configurations and model designations that no modern manufacturer could replicate without the original brand rights. The Model 606 designation, the DOE configuration, and the authentic H&R markings on the receivers are all part of what makes these rifles historically credible rather than generic retro builds. For collectors and enthusiasts who value authenticity, an H&R-marked Model 606 carries historical weight that a generic retro HBAR AR-15 does not.
