Magpul MOE Grip: The Standard Upgrade
The Magpul MOE (Magpul Original Equipment) grip is the most popular AR-15 grip replacement, improving on the standard A2 with a more ergonomic angle, aggressive texture, and a storage compartment in the grip cap that holds a spare battery or cleaning kit. It installs directly in place of the A2 grip with the same hardware. Available in black and multiple colors to match Magpul stock and handguard setups. For the majority of AR-15 owners wanting a simple, inexpensive improvement over the A2, the MOE is the default recommendation.
Magpul MIAD: Fully Customizable
The Magpul MIAD (Mission Adaptable) grip takes customization further with interchangeable front and rear strap inserts in different thicknesses, allowing the grip circumference and angle to be adjusted to fit different hand sizes precisely. The MIAD also includes the storage compartment system and is available in front strap textures from aggressive to moderate. For competitive shooters or builders who want the most precisely fitted grip available, the MIAD is worth the additional cost over the MOE. The Gunfighter is popular with competitive USPSA and 3-Gun shooters who want the fastest possible trigger manipulation. Its aggressive texture and compact profile make it a common sight on competition AR builds. For shooters who prioritize speed of trigger press over ergonomic comfort during sustained shooting, the Gunfighter is worth considering.
Grip Angle: What It Means for Your Shooting
AR-15 grip angle (the angle of the grip relative to the bore) affects where your trigger finger naturally falls and how your wrist positions during firing. The standard A2 grip has a relatively steep angle. Magpul MOE and similar grips maintain a moderate angle that works for most shooters.
