How the Ambient Arms EXO Works

Ambient Arms builds the EXO around its patent-pending Ambient Intake system. Intake ports pair with low-pressure zones inside the suppressor to pull in outside air. That air mixes with hot muzzle gas.

Ambient Arms says this design lowers operating temperatures by up to 75 percent against the best-performing suppressors it tested. It also says the EXO 5.56 and EXO 7.62 LR are up to 15 dB quieter than flow-through suppressors. These figures come from the manufacturer.

The EXO line also uses an integral ported barrel with a purpose-designed muzzle face. Ambient Arms says this gives a cleaner, more symmetric bullet release.

EXO 5.56: Weight, Calibers, and Mount

The EXO 5.56 weighs 14.5 ounces without its HUB mount. Ambient Arms lists it for 5.56, .223 Wylde, and 6mm ARC, with a C-Series Cerakote matte black finish. It lists the barrel length as less than 10.3 inches.

The suppressor comes with a 1/2x28 Universal HUB. Ambient Arms lists it as full-auto rated, passing full SOCOM surge testing, with detailed cleaning every 2,500 rounds. It also lists the EXO 5.56 as made in the USA.

EXO 5.56i MINI (Mini EXO): Weight and Mount

The EXO 5.56i MINI, sold at Impact Guns as the Mini EXO, uses the same three calibers and the same finish. It weighs 19.4 ounces, or 21.3 ounces with the HUB mount. Ambient Arms lists no barrel length restrictions.

It also includes a 1/2x28 Universal HUB and carries the same full-auto and SOCOM surge-testing listing. Ambient Arms lists cleaning every 2,500 rounds and a USA origin. It says the Mini is up to 10 dB quieter than flow-through suppressors, versus up to 15 dB for the EXO 5.56.

EXO 7.62 LR: Titanium and Inconel

The EXO 7.62 LR is Ambient Arms’ precision and long-range model. It is optimized for high-pressure rounds up to .300 Win Mag. Ambient Arms says it reduces flash by 97 percent or more and minimizes thermal mirage.

The titanium LR Ti weighs 11.9 ounces without the HUB, and Ambient Arms calls it ultra-light and hunt-ready. The Inconel LRi weighs 21 ounces without the HUB. Ambient Arms lists both versions with no barrel length restrictions.

Its specification table lists both as full-auto rated, passing full SOCOM surge testing, with cleaning every 2,500 rounds. Each comes with a 5/8x24 Universal HUB. Pair either one with a bolt-action rifle built for long-range work.

HUB Mounts and Muzzle Devices

Ambient Arms lists every EXO as HUB compatible. The EXO 5.56 and Mini come with a 1/2x28 Universal HUB, and the EXO 7.62 LR comes with a 5/8x24 Universal HUB. Match the thread pitch to your muzzle before you buy.

The Ambient Arms ATOM line is made for the same HUB system. See the Ambient Arms page for ATOM flash hiders and muzzle brakes, or browse all muzzle devices.

Choosing the Right EXO

Start with caliber. Choose the EXO 5.56 or Mini for AR-15 rifles chambered in 5.56, .223 Wylde, or 6mm ARC. Choose the EXO 7.62 LR for high-pressure rounds up to .300 Win Mag.

Then compare weight. The EXO 5.56 is lighter than the Mini, and the LR Ti is lighter than the LRi. Ambient Arms also makes the Stratos .22 for rimfire rifles. See the full Ambient Arms lineup or browse all suppressors.
