Real World
This EOTECH model has all kinds of good points and few bad points. I have had this optic in Iraq, back in 2005. Good points: Night Vision compatable, good reliable optics even when patially damaged on the 'HUD' (heads up display) AA batteries are basically available anywhere in the world. Bad Points: Takes up alot of room on the rail. large signature in luggage when traveling through airport security overseas. The batteries do and did rupture on me when the temps were high in Ashraf, Iraq 2005. A bit on the pricey side. Conclusion: Have some back up batteries (a given.)Have a really good set of back up iron sights when the EOTECH fails. Get some sort of cover/caps from scopecoat or GG&G to keep the fine "talcum powder" sand off the glass. Be prepared to take a loss when it is confiscated at an overseas airport.

Love my eotech
I've got my eotech on an AR 15. I carry it daily on patrol. The eotech gives super fast access in CQB situations. Also, eotech's customer service is great. I had an issue with the battery compartment out of warranty. I contacted eotech and they had the part I needed sent, at no cost to me, within 3 business days. Great product and company.

Great sight, faster than Aimpoint
Love my EOTechs. The aiming reticle is much faster than the Aimpoint. I loved it so much I took my personal EOTech to mount on my rifle in Iraq, only to find out that the Army had some for me and I didn't need to bang mine up. I really love how it co-witnesses with iron sights and you don't have to remove it to use your BUIS (should the need arise). This model is very good but occupies space on the rail, so I sold this one and moved to the 551 that takes up less space due to a smaller battery compartment. If not worried about hanging laser aiming devices or white lights on the rails, this one will serve you very well. Very solid construction and with the protective hood, virtually indestructable.
