Trijicon SRO

The Trijicon SRO (Specialized Reflex Optic) is a large-window competition pistol red dot built on the RMR footprint. Where the RMR prioritizes durability and low profile for duty and carry use, the SRO maximizes window size for the fastest possible dot acquisition during competition shooting. It is the optic of choice for serious USPSA, IDPA, and Steel Challenge competitors who run RMR-cut pistols and want the largest possible viewing window without changing their slide cut.

SRO vs. RMR: Competition vs. Duty

The Trijicon SRO and RMR share the same mounting footprint but serve fundamentally different purposes. The RMR Type 2 is built for duty and carry — its low-profile, sloped housing deflects impacts and fits securely in retention holsters. The SRO sacrifices that low profile for a significantly larger window, giving competition shooters a wider field of view to track the dot during fast target transitions. The SRO is not recommended for duty carry or concealment — its taller housing can snag during draw, and holster availability is more limited than the RMR. For competition on a pistol already cut for the RMR footprint, the SRO is the performance upgrade. For carry and duty: RMR. For competition: SRO.

SRO Dot Size Options: 1 MOA, 2.5 MOA, and 5 MOA

The SRO is available in three dot sizes. The 2.5 MOA is the most popular competition choice — precise enough for longer steel targets at 25–50 yards while remaining fast to acquire at close range. The 1 MOA dot is preferred by precision-focused competitors in Carry Optics division where accuracy on small targets at distance matters more than speed at close range. The 5 MOA dot is the fastest-acquisition option, favored in Open division where close-range speed is paramount and longer targets are addressed with the compensator's reduced muzzle flip rather than refined trigger technique. For shooters moving to their first red dot competition optic, the 2.5 MOA is the most versatile starting choice.

The Large Window Advantage in Competition

The SRO's window is approximately 60% larger than the RMR Type 2 — a practical advantage in competition that is immediately apparent during fast target transitions. During USPSA or Steel Challenge matches, the larger window means the dot stays in the shooter's field of view more consistently through the transition arc between targets, reducing the time lost searching for the dot after a fast move. This advantage compounds over a full stage — small time savings on each transition add up to meaningful stage time improvements for shooters who have the fundamentals to exploit them.

Battery and Reliability

The SRO runs on a single CR2032 battery with Trijicon's adjustable LED brightness system — eight settings accessible via the top-mounted buttons. Battery life is rated at up to 5 years at setting 4. The CR2032 is accessed from the top of the optic without removing it from the slide. Unlike the Holosun 507C, the SRO does not include solar backup or Shake Awake motion sensing — it is a purpose-built competition tool that prioritizes window size and optical clarity over battery-saving features. For a competition gun that gets handled and checked frequently, this is not a practical limitation. For a gun that sits in a safe for extended periods, the lack of Shake Awake means you'll want to verify the optic is on before a match.

Zeroing and Adjustment

Zero the SRO at 15–25 yards for most competition applications. The SRO uses tool-free adjustment buttons — push the top button for elevation, side button for windage, in 1 MOA increments per click. The tool-free adjustment is a genuine competition advantage over the RMR's coin-slot screws when making quick adjustments between stages. After zeroing, confirm the zero holds after 50–100 rounds of your match ammunition — competition pistols see high round counts and it's worth verifying zero stability before a major match.

Pistol Compatibility and Holster Notes

The SRO fits any pistol cut for the RMR footprint — Glock MOS series (with adapter), Sig P320 X-Series, Springfield Prodigy, S&W M&P 2.0 with optic cut, and CZ Shadow 2 OR. The critical consideration is holster fit — the SRO's taller housing means some holsters cut for the RMR will not clear the SRO's body. Verify holster compatibility specifically for the SRO before purchasing. Safariland and other competition holster makers produce SRO-specific variants of their popular competition holsters.
