The SAK-21: What Stenzel Set Out to Build
The SAK-21 addresses three specific criticisms of traditional AK-pattern rifles: the lack of a full-length optics rail, the long-stroke piston’s effect on felt recoil and accuracy, and the stamped sheet-metal receiver’s dimensional variability. Stenzel’s solution is a billet aluminum receiver and top cover with a full-length Picatinny rail machined directly in, a short-stroke gas piston system with adjustable gas block, and a two-lug rotating bolt in a carrier that maintains AK manual of arms while improving cycling smoothness. The result is a rifle that handles like an AK, shoots more accurately than most production AKs, and accepts any modern optic without an adapter or side rail.
American Manufacturing
Stenzel manufactures the SAK-21 in the United States with domestic-sourced components. The billet aluminum receiver and top cover, steel trunnion, and short-stroke gas system are all produced to tighter tolerances than stamped-receiver AK production allows.
