Standard Manufacturing SR1
The Standard Manufacturing SR1 is an 8-shot concealed-hammer double-action revolver chambered in .22 Magnum—a combination that puts more rounds in the cylinder than virtually any other carry-sized revolver while delivering the .22 Magnum’s meaningful step up in velocity and energy over .22 LR. Built on an aluminum frame at 18 oz with a 1.8” barrel and polymer grip, the SR1 uses a double cantilever trigger mechanism and dovetailed front and rear sights. It is also available in .22 LR, with a .38 Special variant anticipated. Introduced May 2026 by Standard Manufacturing of New Britain, Connecticut.

Eight Shots of .22 Magnum: The Capacity Case
Most small-frame revolvers hold 5 or 6 rounds. The SR1’s 8-round cylinder is achieved through the .22 Magnum’s rimfire case geometry, which allows closer cylinder spacing than centerfire cartridges of comparable diameter. Eight rounds in a carry revolver is a genuine practical advantage—more shots before reloading, and the .22 Magnum’s higher velocity from a short barrel provides meaningful terminal performance relative to other rimfire cartridges. Hornady Critical Defense .22 Magnum and Winchester PDX1 .22 Magnum are purpose-designed defensive loads that make the caliber viable for self-defense at close range.
Double Cantilever Trigger: What It Is
The SR1 uses a double cantilever trigger mechanism rather than the conventional coil spring and hammer arrangement found in most double-action revolvers. The double cantilever system uses two lever arms that store and release energy differently than a coil spring, resulting in a trigger pull that Standard Manufacturing describes as more consistent across the pull stroke. This is a mechanical approach used in some competition revolver work adapted here to a production carry revolver. For buyers who have found conventional DA revolver trigger pulls inconsistent, the double cantilever design is worth evaluating at the counter.
.22 Magnum vs. .22 LR for Defense
The SR1 is available in both .22 Magnum and .22 LR. From a 1.8” barrel, the .22 Magnum produces approximately 100–150 fps more velocity than .22 LR with standard loads, and its longer case accommodates more powder for better performance from short barrels than .22 LR. For defensive use, .22 Magnum’s advantage is real but modest at close range. The more important consideration is ammunition selection—using purpose-designed defensive loads like Hornady Critical Defense rather than standard FMJ or target loads makes far more difference than the .22 LR vs. .22 Magnum distinction at defensive distances.
Standard Manufacturing: The Company
Standard Manufacturing Company is based in New Britain, Connecticut, and produces a range of firearms including the S333 Volleyfire double-barrel pistol, 1911-pattern pistols, and the DP-12 double-barrel pump shotgun. The company is known for unconventional designs that address specific market needs rather than competing directly with mainstream platforms. The SR1 continues this pattern—an 8-shot .22 Magnum carry revolver addresses a niche that no other major manufacturer had filled with a current production firearm.
