The P385 is not a variant of the P320 or P365 — it’s an entirely new platform built around a purpose-designed Fire Control Unit and Sig Trigger Block system. Sig positions it as the next generation of its striker-fired lineup, aimed at duty, competition, and carry shooters who want the modularity of the P320 with a new set of recoil-management and ergonomics features layered in from the ground up.
SRDS and Low Bore Axis: How the P385 Manages Recoil
The SIG Recoil Dampening System (SRDS) is built into the P385’s grip module to absorb vibration in the recoil system, working alongside an extremely low bore axis to cut muzzle rise and help the shooter recover the sight picture faster between shots. Compensated MACH3D variants add a dedicated compensator on top of SRDS, reducing muzzle rise by more than 30% for shooters who want the most controllable configuration available.
Magstrap Grip System: Modular Fit Without Swapping Grip Modules
Instead of separate small/medium/large backstraps, the P385 uses an interchangeable Magstrap component that changes grip circumference, length of pull, and overall size — including moving between full-size and compact grip length on the same grip module. Magstraps come in three sizes (Small: 1.95", Medium: 2.15", Large: 2.25" circumference), and trigger reach measures approximately 2.9 inches regardless of which Magstrap is installed.

Sig has announced five P385 configurations — P385-CARRY and P385-COMPACT for concealed carry, P385-FULL for duty and range use, P385-COMP with a competition-oriented build, and P385-MACH3D pairing the compensator with SRDS for maximum recoil control. The Carry and Comp configurations are available now, including Carry models with or without a manual thumb safety and both Carry and Comp available with a factory-mounted ROMEO-X optic. Magazine, Holster, and Parts Compatibility
The P385 runs standard P320 magazines for proven reliability and existing magazine availability — though a P320 magazine with the original “round” basepad requires removing the P385’s metal magwell first. The P320 AXG magwell and P-Series dovetail iron sights also carry over, but the P385 is not holster-compatible with the P320 or P365 — it needs a holster built specifically for its frame. Sig has confirmed launch holster support from Safariland, ANR, and BlackPoint, with more expected as the P385 ships.
