Sig Sauer P320 X5
The Sig Sauer P320 X5 is the full-size, 5” barrel competition configuration of the P320 platform—the pistol that launched Sig’s dominance in competitive shooting. Built around the P320’s modular serialized FCU, the X5 delivers a longer sight radius, extended grip module for a full firing grip, flat-faced trigger, and optics-ready slide in a package that competes comfortably in USPSA Production and Carry Optics. It is the starting point of the X5 family and the benchmark against which the X5 Legion is measured.

P320 X5 vs. P320 X5 Legion: Which One Do You Need?
The X5 and X5 Legion are built on the same FCU and share the same 5” barrel, but the Legion adds three meaningful upgrades: a tungsten-infused grip module that adds significant mass below the bore axis to reduce muzzle flip, an upgraded Legion trigger with refined pull geometry, and a higher-end finish throughout. The X5 is the correct choice for buyers who want competition capability at a lower entry price or who plan to run aftermarket grip modules. The Legion is for buyers who want the best factory competition configuration without any aftermarket work.
Why the 5” Barrel Matters for Competition
The standard P320 Full-Size runs a 4.7” barrel. The X5’s 5” barrel adds sight radius—the distance between front and rear sights—which directly improves accuracy at distance. It also adds a small amount of velocity. In practical competition shooting, the longer sight radius makes the pistol more forgiving of trigger technique and gives a cleaner sight picture for precision shots. The X5’s full-size grip module accommodates 21-round magazines and gives a complete firing grip for all hand sizes.
The P320 FCU Advantage
The serialized FCU—the small internal chassis that is legally the firearm—can be moved between grip modules, slides, and barrels. An X5 buyer can run the same FCU in a compact carry frame for daily carry and drop it into the X5 full-size frame for competition. Caliber conversions by swapping slide and barrel are also possible. The X5 is the best competition entry point into the P320 ecosystem because the FCU’s modular value compounds with every additional configuration you add over time.
USPSA and Competition Legality
The P320 X5 is legal in USPSA Production division with irons, and in Carry Optics with a red dot mounted. The 21-round magazines are legal in both divisions. No modifications are required to compete—the X5 ships ready to run at a match. For Production division shooters who want the lightest possible pistol with the cleanest factory trigger, the X5 with the standard grip module is a well-regarded choice. For Carry Optics, most competitors add a red dot and run the pistol as delivered.
