What the SAS/22 Does: Two Compacting Systems in One
The Ruger 10/22 Takedown already breaks down at the receiver — the barrel assembly separates and the two halves fit inside a dedicated pack or case. The SAS/22 adds a folding chassis that allows the stock to fold alongside the receiver even before separating the barrel, reducing the overall length in a single motion without requiring any tools or disassembly. For transport where the full barrel-separation process is impractical — throwing the rifle in a backpack on a trail, storing it in a vehicle, or packing it in a checked bag for a hunting trip — the fold gives you immediate length reduction. For maximum compactness, fold the stock and separate the barrel to produce a package roughly the size of a large hardcover book. Compatibility: Which 10/22 Does It Fit?
The SAS/22 is built specifically for the Ruger 10/22 Takedown — the variant with the barrel-locking system that allows barrel separation. It is not compatible with the standard fixed-barrel 10/22 Carbine, 10/22 Sporter, or other 10/22 variants without the Takedown receiver and locking ring. If you own a standard 10/22 and want to run the SAS/22, you would need to purchase a 10/22 Takedown. Installation Process
The SAS/22 replaces the factory stock and handguard — no gunsmithing, no permanent modification, no drilling. The installation uses the existing action screws and the factory barrel-locking interface. The process takes approximately 15–20 minutes with basic tools. After installation, the 10/22 Takedown's factory barrel separation continues to work normally, and the firearm can be returned to factory configuration by reversing the installation. The M-LOK handguard slots line up with the barrel axis and accept all standard M-LOK accessories — lights, lasers, bipods, and sling mounts all mount cleanly.
M-LOK Handguard: Accessory Compatibility
The SAS/22's free-float M-LOK handguard wraps the barrel without contact, eliminating the barrel pressure inconsistency that factory wood and synthetic stocks introduce. Free-floating the barrel can improve group consistency, though the primary practical benefit at .22 LR distances is the M-LOK mounting system itself. Standard M-LOK accessories from Magpul, Midwest Industries, and other manufacturers mount directly.
