How Online Firearm Purchases Work
All firearms ship to a Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealer near you — this is required by federal law regardless of where you purchase. Your FFL dealer handles the background check (ATF Form 4473) and any state-required paperwork. Transfer fees are typically $25–$50 and are paid directly to your local FFL. Full ordering guide →

Frequently Asked Questions: Guns for Sale
How do I buy a gun online?
Select your firearm on impactguns.com, complete checkout, and provide the name and address of a licensed FFL dealer near you. We ship to your chosen FFL dealer, who contacts you when it arrives. You visit the dealer, show a valid ID, complete ATF Form 4473, pass a NICS background check, pay the dealer’s transfer fee (typically $20–$50), and take possession. See our full How to Order a Gun guide for step-by-step detail.
What guns can be shipped to my home?
No firearms ship directly to your home under federal law. All firearms — handguns, rifles, and shotguns — must ship to a licensed FFL dealer in your state. Ammunition, magazines, and most accessories ship directly to your home. Suppressors and other NFA items must ship to a Class III SOT dealer.
What is the best gun to buy first?
For most first-time buyers, a full-size or compact 9mm pistol from a major manufacturer (Glock 19, Sig P320, Smith & Wesson M&P, Springfield Armory Hellcat) covers home defense, potential carry use, and is the most practical starting point. For rifle buyers, a standard AR-15 in 5.56 NATO from Ruger, Smith & Wesson, or Springfield Armory offers broad utility for home defense, range use, and hunting. See our home defense guide and concealed carry guide for more specific recommendations.
Do I need a license to own a gun?
In most US states, no license is required to own a firearm in your home. To carry a concealed handgun in public, most states require a Concealed Carry Permit (CCP) or Concealed Handgun License (CHL) obtained through your state. Some states have permit-less carry (constitutional carry). Always verify your state’s specific requirements before carrying a firearm outside your home.
Does Impact Guns ship to my state?
Impact Guns ships to FFL dealers in all 50 states in compliance with federal and state law. Some states have restrictions on specific firearm types, features, or magazine capacity — we comply with all applicable state laws and will advise you if a specific item cannot be shipped to your state.
