Colt M4 Carbine for Sale — LE6920 & M4 Series AR-15 | Impact Guns

Colt M4 LE6920

The Colt M4 Carbine is the civilian and law enforcement version of the M4 issued to US military personnel—built on Colt’s government contract production line to the same specifications. The LE6920 is the flagship configuration: a 16” barrel, mid-length gas system, M4 feed ramp barrel extension, and a chrome-lined bore that meets Mil-Spec 11595E requirements. Where most AR-15s are built to commercial specifications inspired by the military design, the Colt M4 is built to the same drawings. For buyers who want the actual platform rather than a derivative, the Colt M4 is the benchmark.

LE6920 vs. Other Colt AR-15 Models

The Colt LE6920 is the standard-bearer—a 16” mid-length direct impingement carbine with a chrome-lined bore, M4 barrel extension with feed ramps, and a standard M4 stock. The LE6940 adds a monolithic upper receiver and integrated rail system. The Colt M4 Expanse is a cost-reduced variant with a phosphate-finished bore instead of chrome lining, intended for buyers who want the Colt name at a lower price point. For buyers who want full mil-spec compliance, the LE6920 is the correct choice. The chrome-lined bore adds durability and corrosion resistance that matters for hard use and infrequent cleaning.

Why Chrome-Lining Matters

Chrome lining the bore and chamber is a mil-spec requirement that most commercial AR-15s skip to reduce cost. It adds approximately 3,000–5,000 rounds of additional barrel life before accuracy degradation, provides corrosion resistance for rifles stored in humid conditions or exposed to the elements, and makes cleaning significantly easier since carbon fouling doesn’t bond to chrome the way it does to bare steel. For a duty rifle, hunting rifle in harsh conditions, or any rifle that might go long periods between cleanings, chrome lining is a genuine operational advantage rather than a marketing specification.

M4 Feed Ramps

Standard AR-15 barrels have feed ramps machined into the barrel extension only. M4 feed ramps extend the ramp cut into the upper receiver as well, providing a longer, smoother feeding surface. This was developed to improve reliability with shorter 14.5” M4 barrels at higher cyclic rates than the original AR-15 was designed for. On a 16” semi-automatic carbine the practical difference is modest, but M4 feed ramps improve reliability with a wider range of ammunition profiles—including hollow point defensive loads that can catch on standard feed ramps in some configurations.

Colt vs. BCM, Daniel Defense, and Other Premium AR-15 Brands

Colt, BCM, and Daniel Defense occupy the same tier of the AR-15 market—all three build to mil-spec or above and have military/law enforcement contract experience. The differences are in emphasis: Colt’s advantage is the actual government contract heritage and the LE6920’s direct lineage to the issued M4. BCM’s advantage is its GUNFIGHTER accessories ecosystem and cold hammer-forged barrels. Daniel Defense’s advantage is its monolithic upper receiver designs. All three are excellent choices; the decision often comes down to specific feature preferences rather than quality differences.
