The M2XI: Double-Stack 9mm 1911 Done Right
The Bersa M2XI is built around a double-stack 1911 frame chambered in 9mm with a 17-round magazine — bringing the 1911 platform into direct competition with the Sig P320 and Staccato P4 in capacity terms while maintaining the 1911’s characteristic single-action trigger and ergonomics. The 5” match-grade bull barrel eliminates the traditional bushing and produces consistent accuracy from the factory. The QPQ Tenifer Cerakote finish is among the most durable available on a production pistol. For 1911 shooters who have wanted double-stack capacity without abandoning the platform’s feel, the M2XI delivers it at a price that makes the decision straightforward.
Match-Grade Bull Barrel: What It Means
The M2XI’s bull barrel design eliminates the traditional barrel bushing found on standard 1911s, replacing it with a barrel that fits precisely into the slide without the tolerance stack that bushings introduce. The result is more consistent barrel-to-slide lockup on every shot, which translates directly to improved accuracy. Bersa machines the M2XI’s barrel to match-grade specifications — tight chamber dimensions and precise muzzle crown — producing a factory barrel that many custom 1911 shops would charge considerably more to replicate. The 5” length provides the full sight radius and velocity of a Government-model 1911.
QPQ Tenifer Finish: Durability Over Aesthetics
The QPQ (Quench-Polish-Quench) Tenifer process used on M2XI variants provides corrosion and wear resistance that surpasses traditional bluing and approaches hard chrome. Tenifer penetrates the metal surface rather than sitting on top of it, which means it can’t chip or peel. The salt spray resistance of Tenifer-treated metal is among the highest available on production firearms. For a carry or duty 1911 that will be exposed to sweat, humidity, and holster wear, the M2XI’s finish is a practical advantage over standard stainless or blued alternatives.
Optics-Ready Slide
Current M2XI production includes an optics-ready slide with a factory cut for popular red dot footprints, making it directly competitive with the optics-ready 1911 configurations from domestic manufacturers at significantly higher price points. The lightening cuts on the slide reduce reciprocating mass for faster cycling and a more distinctive appearance. Co-witnessing night sights are standard. For competition shooters running Carry Optics division or carry shooters who want a red dot on their 1911, the M2XI delivers the factory hardware without the gunsmith cost that optics-cutting a traditional 1911 slide requires.
Bersa’s Argentine Manufacturing Heritage
Bersa has manufactured firearms in Ramos Mejía, Argentina since 1958. The company supplies the Argentine Armed Forces and police with service pistols and has built a long track record of reliable production. The Thunder .380 series established Bersa’s American reputation as a quality-to-value leader; the M2XI represents the brand’s most ambitious step into the premium pistol segment. Argentine manufacturing has historically produced underrated firearms that outperform their price point — Bersa’s industrial manufacturing discipline applied to the M2XI’s specifications produces a double-stack 1911 that punches significantly above its price class.
