Suppressor Parts

A suppressor is a system, not just a can — pistons, mounts, end caps, and adapters determine which hosts it fits and how well it performs on each. Impact Guns carries suppressor parts and accessories for Dead Air, SilencerCo, Gemtech, and other major suppressor brands. The parts themselves are unregulated hardware that ships directly to you; only the suppressor itself is an NFA item.

Pistons and Nielsen Devices: Why Pistol Cans Need Them

Browning-action pistols (nearly all modern semi-autos) have barrels that tilt during cycling — a rigidly mounted suppressor’s weight stops the action from cycling. The Nielsen device (booster) inside a pistol suppressor uses a sprung piston to decouple the can’s mass momentarily, letting the action run. The piston is also the thread interface: swap pistons to move one suppressor between hosts with different barrel threads — 1/2-28 for 9mm, .578-28 for .45, M13.5x1 LH for many European pistols. Fixed-barrel hosts (rifles, PCCs) use a fixed spacer instead of a piston.

Muzzle Devices and QD Mounts

Quick-detach rifle suppressors mount over a dedicated muzzle device — a brake or flash hider that stays on the rifle. Buying additional mounts for each rifle is how one suppressor serves a whole safe: leave a mount on every host, move the can in seconds. Mount systems are proprietary (Dead Air KeyMo, SilencerCo ASR, Surefire SOCOM), so match the mount to your suppressor’s system, then match the device’s thread to each barrel — 1/2-28 for 5.56, 5/8-24 for .30 caliber.

End Caps and Front Caps

Replaceable end caps let a multi-caliber suppressor run the smallest practical aperture — a .30-cal can shooting 5.56 performs measurably better with a dedicated 5.56 cap. End caps are also the sacrificial part: a baffle strike usually hits the cap first, and replacing a cap is cheap compared to a can repair. Keep the correct caliber cap installed and a spare in the range bag.

Spares and Maintenance Hardware

Piston springs wear, fixed spacers go missing, and rimfire cans need disassembly tools for regular cleaning — rimfire ammunition fouls suppressors fast, and a carbon-locked .22 can is a common (avoidable) fate. Suppressor covers protect hands and gear from a hot can and reduce mirage over the optic during strings of fire; see suppressor covers. None of these parts are serialized; all ship direct.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do suppressor parts require a tax stamp or FFL?
No — pistons, mounts, end caps, springs, and covers are unregulated accessories that ship directly to your door. Only the suppressor itself (the serialized tube and baffle assembly) is an NFA item requiring ATF approval. Replacement baffles are the exception — those are regulated and must go through your suppressor’s manufacturer.

What piston do I need for my pistol?
Match the piston thread to your threaded barrel: 1/2-28 covers most 9mm and .22 barrels, .578-28 covers most .45 ACP, and M13.5x1 LH appears on many European hosts. The piston must also match your suppressor brand’s booster assembly — pistons are not cross-brand compatible.

Can I use one suppressor on multiple guns?
Yes — that’s the point of the parts ecosystem. One registered can plus a piston or mount for each host covers an entire collection, caliber limits permitting (a .30-cal can runs 5.56 and 300 BLK; never run a caliber larger than the can’s bore rating). Extra mounts and pistons are far cheaper than extra stamps and wait times.
