What the LT-15 Replaces
The LT-15 succeeds LaRue’s earlier OBR 5.56 and PredatAR 5.56 lineups as the company’s primary 5.56 NATO complete rifle offering. The LT-15 brings forward LaRue’s match-grade barrel, free-floating handguard, and quality fire control group standards while updating the platform with the latest LaRue refinements — tool-free handguard removal on some variants, refined ergonomics, and current-production components throughout. For shooters familiar with the OBR and PredatAR reputation, the LT-15 represents the same engineering DNA in a current-generation package.
The LaRue Stealth Barrel
Every LT-15 ships with the LaRue Stealth barrel — a match-grade barrel profile with 1:8 twist suitable for the full range of 5.56 bullet weights from 55-grain practice loads through 77-grain heavy match. The 1:8 twist is the AR-15 sweet spot: stabilizing heavy bullets that benefit long-range accuracy while still shooting lighter bullets reliably. Sub-1/2 MOA accuracy with quality match ammunition is the standard expectation, with many LT-15 rifles delivering tighter groups with their preferred load.
Configurations: 12" SBR, 16", 18"
The 12-inch SBR is the short-barrel configuration — requires Form 1 or Form 4 NFA paperwork (no tax stamp as of January 1, 2026) but offers compact dimensions for vehicle deployment and close-quarters work. The 16-inch is the standard rifle-length AR-15 configuration suitable for all general use. The 18-inch extracts maximum velocity from heavier 5.56 bullets and is the choice for shooters prioritizing long-range accuracy. All configurations share the same build quality and Stealth barrel; the choice depends on intended use case.
Standard Equipment
The LT-15 ships complete and ready to shoot: LaRue match trigger group, LaRue free-floating handguard with M-LOK attachment points, LaRue Stealth barrel, LaRue muzzle device, quality bolt carrier group, and appropriate furniture. There’s no “upgrade-needed” component list as with many mass-market ARs — mount optics and a sling, and the LT-15 is duty-ready as shipped. See our LaRue Tactical brand page for the company’s broader product lineup including accessories and parts.
What the LT-15 Competes Against
The LT-15 competes in the premium AR-15 segment alongside Daniel Defense DDM4, BCM Recce, Knight’s Armament SR-15, and similar duty-grade precision ARs. Against Daniel Defense and BCM, the LT-15 typically delivers stronger out-of-box precision capability at comparable pricing. Against Knight’s SR-15, the LT-15 is substantially less expensive while delivering most of the practical accuracy and durability. For shooters who want premium AR-15 quality without paying Knight’s pricing, the LT-15 is a serious option.
Frequently Asked Questions
What accuracy should I expect from the LaRue LT-15?
Sub-1/2 MOA with quality match ammunition is the standard expectation reported by LaRue and confirmed in user reviews — some LT-15s deliver groups in the 0.3-0.4 MOA range with their preferred load. Practical accuracy with commercial ammunition is typically 1-1.5 MOA. The rifle’s mechanical potential is high; ammunition selection determines what the shooter realizes.
LT-15 vs. the older LaRue OBR — what changed?
The LT-15 succeeds the OBR 5.56 as LaRue’s current-production complete 5.56 rifle. The engineering DNA is preserved — match barrel, free-floating handguard, quality components throughout — while incorporating LaRue’s latest refinements including current-generation furniture and tool-free handguard removal on applicable variants. For practical purposes, the LT-15 is the current version of what the OBR represented.
Is the 12-inch LT-15 a short-barreled rifle (SBR)?
Yes — the 12-inch configuration is below the 16-inch federal minimum barrel length for a non-SBR rifle, requiring NFA registration (Form 1 or Form 4). The $200 NFA tax stamp was eliminated January 1, 2026, but the registration paperwork process remains. The 16-inch and 18-inch LT-15 configurations are standard rifles requiring no NFA paperwork.
