Freedom Ordnance FX-9
The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 is a modular 9mm semi-automatic platform available in pistol and carbine configurations with barrel lengths from 4” through 16”. All FX-9 variants use Glock-style double-stack 9mm magazines, AR-15-style controls, a free-float M-LOK handguard, and a Picatinny top rail. The blowback-operated action is reliable with standard and +P 9mm loads, and the platform’s modularity allows upper assembly changes for buyers who want different configurations from one lower receiver.

FX-9 Pistol Configurations: 4” and 8”
The short-barreled FX-9 pistol variants with 4” and 8” barrels and pistol braces are the most compact configurations in the lineup. The 4” pistol is the most maneuverable, suited for home defense and vehicle carry. The 8” pistol adds velocity and a longer sight radius while remaining legally pistol-classified. Both accept standard Glock magazines and share the same AR-style controls as the carbine variants. Since January 1, 2026, the NFA $200 tax stamp has been eliminated, making SBR conversion via Form 1 a no-cost option for buyers who want to add a full stock.
FX-9 Elite Carbine: 14.5” and 16”
The FX-9 Elite configurations use 14.5” (pinned and welded to meet minimum rifle length) and 16” barrels with a full rifle stock. The carbine-length barrel provides meaningfully more 9mm velocity than the short pistol variants — approximately 100–150 fps over the 8” — and the shoulder stock delivers a more stable shooting platform for accurate fire at distance. For buyers who want a home defense or range carbine rather than a compact pistol, the Elite in 16” is the practical configuration. The M-LOK handguard, Picatinny rail, and AR controls are identical across all Elite variants.
Glock Magazine Compatibility: Why It Matters
The FX-9 accepts standard Glock 17 double-stack 9mm magazines — factory Glock 17/19/34 magazines, Magpul PMAGs (GL9), ETS Group magazines, and 33-round and 50-round extended options all function without modification. For buyers who already own Glock 17 or 19 magazines, the FX-9 creates a unified magazine supply between their pistol and carbine. For buyers who don’t own a Glock pistol, Glock-pattern magazines are the most widely available pistol magazine in the US market, ensuring easy sourcing at any gun shop or retailer.
FX-9 vs. Ruger PC Carbine and Kel-Tec Sub-2000
The three primary Glock-magazine-compatible 9mm carbines are the FX-9, Ruger PC Carbine, and Kel-Tec Sub-2000. The Ruger PC Carbine has better fit and finish and a tool-free takedown feature that separates the barrel and action for compact transport. The Sub-2000 folds in half for the most compact storage footprint. The FX-9 offers the most AR-15-familiar controls and the broadest configuration range. Choose the Ruger if takedown storage matters; the Sub-2000 if you need it to fold as small as possible; the FX-9 if you want AR controls and configuration flexibility.
