State Legal Guns
Several U.S. states impose restrictions on firearm features, magazine capacity, or specific models that require compliant configurations for legal purchase and ownership. Impact Guns ships firearms to all 50 states through licensed FFL dealers, and we carry state-compliant versions of popular firearms for customers in California, Colorado, and other states with feature restrictions. If you’re unsure whether a specific firearm is legal in your state, our staff can advise on compliance—or consult with a licensed attorney in your state for definitive legal guidance.

How State Restrictions Work
State firearm restrictions typically fall into three categories: feature restrictions (banning specific characteristics like pistol grips, adjustable stocks, or threaded barrels on semi-automatic rifles), magazine capacity limits (commonly 10 rounds), and specific model bans (rosters of approved handguns in California, for example). Compliant firearms address these restrictions through configuration changes—a fixed stock instead of adjustable, a featureless grip wrap, or a 10-round magazine—while maintaining the core functionality of the firearm. Some restrictions affect the firearm itself; others affect magazines and accessories independently.
California-Compliant Firearms
California has the most restrictive firearms laws in the country, including an Assault Weapons Control Act that restricts certain semi-automatic rifle features, a handgun roster requirement for new handgun models sold through dealers, and a 10-round magazine capacity limit. California-compliant AR-15s use featureless configurations (no pistol grip, no adjustable stock, no flash hider, no grenade launcher mount) or bullet button/fixed magazine systems. Impact Guns carries California-compliant rifles and ships through California FFL dealers. See: California Legal Guns.
Colorado-Compliant Firearms
Colorado restricts magazine capacity to 15 rounds for magazines manufactured after July 1, 2013. Most standard semi-automatic pistols and rifles with factory magazines of 15 rounds or fewer are fully legal in Colorado. High-capacity magazines manufactured before that date are grandfathered. Colorado does not have the same feature-based restrictions as California—standard AR-15 configurations with 15-round or smaller magazines are legal. See: Colorado Legal Guns.
Other Restricted States
Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Washington also have various firearm restrictions ranging from assault weapons bans to magazine capacity limits. The specific restrictions vary significantly between states and change periodically through legislation and court rulings. Impact Guns recommends verifying current state law before purchasing any firearm, particularly for semi-automatic rifles, high-capacity magazines, and suppressors. Our staff can advise on what we can ship to your state, but for legal questions we recommend consulting a firearms attorney in your jurisdiction.
