Springfield has introduced a compact version of the XD(M) pistol called the 3.8. Its name refers to the barrel length which is 3.8" long, 0.7" shorter than the standard XD(M). The name is sure to confuse many who will think it refers to the .380 cartridge. The 3.8 model features non-slip slide serrations which have a kink in them, unlike the standard model which has straight serrations.

Fantastic Gun
I luv this gun! The XDM 40 S&W is very accurate, comfortable in the hand, and does not have a hard kick/recoil as one might imagine. I already had an older XD 9mm and was looking for a .40, and intially wanted a Glock 23. But the Glock grip was really uncomfortable and really dug into my hand, and the recoil was more noticeable than the XDM. After I Tried the XDM ... what a difference! Easier to shoot and more accurate, comfortable, sheer joy ... for me! I recently purchased the XDM, took it to the range for the first time, fired off 100 rounds ... not one issue! It's just as reliable as my older XD, but much nicer in many respects. Get one!
