  • Gun excellent. Sig magazines poor

Posted by Richard on Oct 29th 2013

I've fired three thousand rounds through mine without a single problem. Plastic wrap around one piece grips are slightly narrower than the other P226 models I looked at so it fits my smallish hand perfectly. After two trips to the range I forked out good money for MecGar magazines as I didn't trust the magazines supplied by Sig. Simply loading ammunition into them, the difference in smoothness and quality was evident between factory mags and MecGar. If this gun fits your hand and meets your wants, then expect to pay a bit more for good magazines.

  • Gun is great, magazines could be better

This gun itself has many nice features and comes out of the box ready for carry, competition, and sport shooting. The double action trigger was a little rough at first, but after about a thousand repetitions of dry fire has smoothed out very nicely and now has a crisp steady pull throughout with little to no stack. The single action trigger has a very nice feel and the short reset makes shooting fast feel easy. The sights work well for me as both carry sights and competition sights as I intend to use the gun for both. The combination of fiber optic and tritium sights is nice giving fast front sight acquisition during the day, and still giving the advantage of night sights for low light. The grip so far has worked well for me even with sweaty hands in the AZ heat. This has been a problem in the past with some of my other guns and I have used skateboard grip tape on guns before. I don't think that I will have to with this one. The tapered magwell is also a nice addition making for faster, easier reloads. Having a 20 round magazine capacity is a definite bonus for both competition and carry. The only thing that I don't like about the package is the design of the base pad and retainer on the magazines. When loading or unloading the mags by hand it seemed as though the follower would stick. When I looked into it a little more I noticed that the mag spring as it compresses catches on the bottom of the steel mag body where the base pad and retainer leave a lip exposed. So far during shooting the recoil seems to keep the spring jarred free of the bottom of the mag body, but is it something I would be ready to trust my life with, not really. I will continue to use this gun for recreation and competition until I gain the confidence in the magazines or I engineer out the problem on my own. I give the gun 5 stars. It gives me everything I was looking for in a Sig for steel and challenge matches. The magazines I give 3 stars because I feel that it would not have required too much more effort to engineer out the problem of the spring catching on the mag body. Especially a magazine that many retailers are asking as much as 90 dollars each to buy. Would I buy the package again? Yes. Would I recommend it to others? Yes. For the price it gave me a lot of features that I wanted that would have cost much more to buy a base model and then upgrade.
