Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), is proud to introduce several new products for 2011.
The NEW SR40 Pistol is now available in an alloy steel slide version with Nitridox Pro Black finish. Both the original stainless slide model and the new black slide model also are available in 10 round state compliant versions and are currently available in California.
The SR40 features a slim, narrow glass-filled nylon frame with a short trigger reach, reversible back strap for arched or flat configuration, and fully ambidextrous controls. The slide is either through-hardened, stainless steel or blackened alloy steel, depending on the model.
The SR40 features a 4.1" long barrel, fully adjustable 3-dot sight system, and an integral accessory rail. It also offers modern safety features such as a visual and tactile loaded chamber indicator, striker blocker, trigger safety, magazine disconnect, and a frame-mounted ambidextrous manual safety.
The SR40 weighs 27.25 oz, (with an empty magazine) and ships with two fifteen-round flush-fit magazines or two ten-round flush fit magazines where required to comply with state or local laws and regulations. An anti-friction coating applied to the magazine body greatly reduces the force required to load the magazines to full capacity.

Great gun, top notch
The SR40 is my primary carry gun. Having put more than 1,500 rounds down range through my SR40, I can say that I am impressed with the the entire gun. Some may not like the safety features, but I like them and quickly learned to adapt them into daily life. Its also a bonus for those with families/children (yes it should be locked away as we all know). Stripping down the gun for cleaning is very easy, once you have done it once, you are likely to be able to do it blindfolded. As for ammo my gun likes, I have shot everything from federal range + target ammo, CCI blazers (both brass and aluminum casings), CCI Independence, Magtech, Winchester and Hornaday Critical Defense ammo down range with my gun. I can say that by far the best results were with the Hornaday ammo, followed by the CCI blazers. The only time I had a problem with FTF and FTE was with the Winchester ammo. Initially I thought it was just the box/run I had, but I tried again a couple months later with a different box/run and still had a FTE and FTF and also not as good consistency as the other ammo named above. My sole complaint, but its more of a nit-picky issue that I have (and find this on 95% of the factory guns) is that the trigger is not as smooth as I like, so a trigger job to lower the pull pounds required and also to make the pull more fluid certainly made the gun more to my liking. I have not yet rated an under $1,500 gun a 5 star, so do take that into consideration when weighing my review.

Excellent Handgun
I recently purchased the SR-40 after having a few 1911's. The gun feels great in your hand and the weight and balance are right on. It was accurate out of the box. I have shot around 600 rounds through it now without any problems, using a wide variety of ammo. The only change I made to the gun was to add some high visibility paint to the white dots on the site. I am very happy and would highly recommend the pistol to anyone.
