The chrome-lined gas block and chrome-plated piston and regulator work together to provide a smooth power delivery stroke to the bolt carrier. The by-products of the gas system are vented out the bottom of the gas block, away from the bolt carrier, keeping the action clean and free from contaminants. The end result is significantly improved performance over gas driven rifles.

Consistent hunting rifle. Ruger SR556
My son bought one with a Hardy supressor fitted my Leupold 3.5 x 10 scope and have shot everything from rabbits, goats, wallabies, deer, Thar and cattle with it. Shooting regularly out to 400 yards and these rifles perform above average. Best string is 34 animals with 36 shots start at 150 yards finished at 433 yards ( Leica ranged)without throwing any wild rounds really holds grouping well. I find the military brass best in ar's as same with my Wyndham ar15, Ruger is easy to clean and can handle the knocks when crawling through the thick scrub and bluffs. Easy to free shoot as has well balanced heft and doesn't blow round in the windy conditions like a lite rifle does. I spent two seasons hunting for the NZFS culling using a Browning BAR as these guns weren't available only the old mini 14's. Today I wouldn't look at anything else wouldn't waste my time or money on a bolt action as tooslow and Ruger accuracy the equal as reload anyway.
