Small Powerhouse
Love the weight and accuracy but the wood grips should have the sharp edges rounded off. They bite into my hand. I had better luck with the Hogue grips, as they are much more comfortable. I will be taking it to my local gunsmith to have the action smoothed out. This will be a good gun to carry as a backup hunting, because of the weight. I usually shoot 44 Specials and I will hand load target rounds. I always wanted one of S&W's 44 magnums and this was a great choice for me.

S&W 44 Mag.
With a Scandium alloy frame and a Titanium cylinder, this 4" power house is quite a handful. I found the wood grips had sharp corners that hurt my hand when firing. The Hogue grips are much better. For home defense, I have it loaded with CCI 44 mag shot shells. what a nasty surprise for one or several intruders. I once killed a 5' rattlesnake with a 38 shot shell so a 44 must be devastating without the over penetration.

Great gun!
If you are looking for a purpose built hand gun (hiking hunting)and you live or play in bear country then this gun is hard to beat. The only reason I did not give this gun 5 stars is because S&W does not sell the right grips with it. The first thing you should do is get a set of their X frame grips, they make shooting this gun very manageable. You have to keep in mind that this is a self defense gun not a range toy. However, I am shooting some really light 240 grain loads that are quite pleasant. When archery hunting I carry some 270 grain bullets that I load to about 1,100 FPS and they are quite manageable. All in all a great gun for what it is meant for.
