I bought this handgun for hunting. I wanted a good, strong gun to handle stout loads and put down just about anything that got within handgun range. I had no experience shooting a 44 magnum as I had a 357 Ruger Black hawk in 4 5/8 barrel. I loaded that up with 158 grain hardcaste and used it for 25 years. However, the opportunity of a trip to Alaska came up and I felt my 357 might be lacking since it was a single action. Also the 357 might be a little bit light should I need protection against some of the bigger Bears. Well the trip never came off but I am glad I got the gun. It's strength is amazing. It handles 300 gr. +p loads with ease. I have loaded 300 grain Hornady XTP with fps in excess of 1350 with no signs of high pressure. You definitely know something extraordinary is happening when you touch one off and I wouldn't recomend it for a new shooter but I would be confident in bear country. Its Built like a German Panzer and will wear out the user before the gun wears out.

Really like this revolver. Purchased it well used or carried a lot since 1987. Bought it in 2010,in blue finish. It shoots good still. I just love the looks of it. Got it just to have a .44 mag revolver in my humble collection. The counter man at the gunshop said upon purchase "oh,,your gonna have fun with this!!LOL" I legally carry it in a homemade shoulder rig in winter months a few times. The cylinder is longer & shoots all ammo, even nylon tip rifle stuff there. Have smaller hands so I tried different wood grips too.
