100% American made. The Ruger American Rifle is the latest engineering innovation from America's leading firearms manufacturer. When design and development began at Ruger, the American rifle was never intended to be just another cheap rifle. Rather, the mission was to build a quality rifle that also happened to be extremely affordable.
Offered in rimfire, short and long-action calibers, the American Rifle combines the rugged reliability of Ruger's past with the award-winning ingenuity featured in so many of Ruger's new products. The American Rifle's receiver starts with a length of 4140 chrome moly bar stock that is milled with slick angular lines. This milled action is then paired with a tried-and-true cold hammer forged barrel. The receiver is drilled, tapped and Ruger supplies No.46 Weaver bases with each rifle. Every spring, pin, nut and bolt is made here in the U.S.A., hence the name, the "American" Rifle.
Perhaps one of the biggest innovations on the Ruger American is the new stock system referred to as "Power Bedding". Two sets of slots are machined into the underside of the receiver and then stainless steel V- blocks are set into the molded stock. Since they are molded into the stock, the V- blocks cannot move. The result is a triple steel-on-steel-on-steel system that is immune to stock crushing and guarantees the action seats consistently each time that the screws are torqued down. The stock material itself is a glass filled polypropylene with a straight comb that includes an elegant pistol grip and internal trigger guard.
The American's detachable rotary box magazine borrows heavily from the Ruger 10-22 blueprint, is molded from the same tough material as the stock with an underside radius and precision designed not to rattle. A three- lug bolt head reduces the bolt throw to 70- degrees. It uses a standard plunger style ejector and sliding blade style extractor to get cartridges in and out of the chamber.
Dual cocking cams allow the shooter to more easily cycle the bolt. An all new adjustable trigger system called "Marksman" allows the shooter to set a crisp, clean pull between 3-to 5 -pounds. To round out the package, the Ruger American Rifle uses a 2- position top tang mounted safety which does not lock the action, so the shooter can cycle the bolt to unload the rifle when the gun is on "Safe".
