There is no denying it: this is some of the dirtiest ammo you can shoot. Most people, however, seem to either have pockets that lead via black hole to Fort Knox or don't weigh out the pros and cons. This is not ammo to stake your life on; this is ammo for practice and plinking. My friend and I would go hit our private range and shoot 1000 or more rounds at everything from bricks to targets to water jugs. Back then it cost us $75 a piece to buy 1000 rounds (it's a bit more pricey now). Comparatively, it cost us $650 to go on the same shooting trip with federal ammunition (which, by the way, is the ammo I keep for emergencies). I'll never shoot this ammo out of an AR platform again. The thin gas tube and tighter chamber tolerances really didn't like the dirt. It's also why I no longer own an AR. My AK-47, Mini-14, and SKS will digest these rounds all day long without flinching. But my AR's forward assist got a good work-out after the first mag and was put away after the second one. Yes, a good cleaning is required after, but I find the price and availability to far outweigh the extra 5-10 min required at clean up.
